Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to investigate how teachers at högstadiet, who teach religion, practice the use of film in their teaching methods. I will also examine how the election about which films they use looks. The issues underpinning this work are answered using qualitative interviews. The participants in these interviews are all professionals teachers at högstadiet who work with religious studies.

The study first discusses how popular culture has become part of the school in Sweden, the role of the film is in the national curriculum and how reception resarch describes the audience's interpretation of various textformats.

The theoretical framework used in the work aims to give the reader a broader understanding of how film has become a big part of the modern Swedish school and how the use of film looks today. This is done by presenting different views on the use of film in religious studies, ranging from where the film is used as an illustrative tool to support other literature, to where film is a cornerstone. The studie also presents a few practical examples of how the use of film in religious education might look like.

The results show that the majority of teachers use film. This happens in a few different ways. Some uses short clips as illustrative examples while other teachers base their entire lessons or create discussions through the view of a complete movie. How the election looks also differ a lot, but it always follows a certain criteria. These can range from the length of the film to which the values film have.
