The purpose of this essay is from theory and a qualitative research describe the increased quality that may be experienced in the new social studies program with economic direction where the student can get a Diploma in economics for senior high school. To reach the goal of this essay I have made a research on four of the pilot schools by one interview in depth and an e-mail survey. The four pilot schools are all certified for giving diplomas in economics for senior high school.
The study is written from a qualitative perspective and is based on documentary research and the above mentioned survey. The collected material has been analyzed and the result indicates that teachers, who have been teaching according to the new concept since the fall 2007, experience a clear increase of the quality of both student population and the knowledge that the students get. The possibility for students to get out and work in the industry during their period of study is believed to be the foremost cause of the increase of the quality. It is believed that the students get more theoretical and practical knowledge and experience. This is why the students will be employable directly after their finished education. The new requirement to include mathematics on C level makes the students accepted by universities directly after they have finished their education. The study shows that the teachers also gain from the increase of the quality. The teachers believe that they have a much clearer and better framework to work from. The cooperation between the different subjects is increased which leads to a better totality.
