This study aims to analyze and describe how gender norms are portrayed in Rebecca Yarros romantasy book Fourth Wing, with emphasis on the main character Violet Sorrengail. In order to approach the material consisting of Fourth Wing a qualitative method was chosen to collect data. The data collected is used to analyze how Violet is portrayed based on gender norms, and whether she renegotiates or confirms normative gender ideals. The theoretical framework of this study includes a feminist approach with a gender theory to achieve the purpose of this study. The result indicates that Violet physically is portrayed as a normative woman, even if she later develops some muscles and becomes more masculine, and mentally she is portrayed as both feminine and masculine. Based on how Violet is portrayed the result also indicates that she both renegotiates and confirms normative gender ideals.

Denna studie syftar till att analysera och beskriva hur könsnormer porträtteras i Rebecca Yarros romantasy Fourth Wing, med fokus på huvudkaraktären Violet Sorrengail. Vid närmandet av materialet som består av boken Fourth Wing tillämpades en kvalitativ metod för insamlandet av data. Den insamlade datan användes sedan för att analysera hur Violet framställs utifrån könsnormer, och för att analysera huruvida hon omförhandlar eller bekräftar normativa könsideal. Studiens teoretiska ramverk inkluderar ett feministiskt tillvägagångssätt med en genusteori för att uppnå studiens syfte. Resultatet tyder på att Violet fysiskt beskrivs som en normativ kvinna, även om hon senare utvecklar muskler och blir mer maskulin, medan hon mentalt framställs som både feminin och maskulin. Resultatet tyder också på att Violet både omförhandlar och bekräftar normativa genusideal till följd av hur hon framställs.
