Trust is a central resource in a democratic society and it's even more important in times of crisis. Internationally, Sweden is a so called high-trust-society, which brings up the question how these levels of trust change during a long and heavy crisis like the covid-19-pandemic. The aim of this study is to descriptively analyze how interpersonal trust and institutional trust did change in Sweden during the years 2019-2022. 

The study is based data from the SOM-institutions annual survey and employs a quantitively repeated cross-section design. Changes in trust are analyzed at aggregate level and discussed in relation to established theoretical perspectives in how crises may affect trust, including the stability perspective and the rally-around-the-flag effect. 

The results show that interpersonal trust in Sweden remained stable throughout the period, displaying only minor fluctuations without any clear trend breaks. Institutional trust did however, for a contrast displayed greater variation, with notable differences between institutions. For some institutions a temporary increase in trust can be observed at the beginning of the pandemic, while others display high stability or more gradual changes over time. 

Overall, the findings indicate that interpersonal and institutional trust respond differently to the covid-19-pandemic, highlighting the importance of analyzing trust as a multidimensional phenomenon. The study contributes to a comprehensive account of trust development in Sweden across the entire pandemic period.
