This study examines what happens during the transformation of historically significant sites, with a particular focus on how the history of Marieberg, a former psychiatric hospital area, has been preserved and communicated following the relocation of its healthcare service. The study investigates how a complex site, which has deeply affected many individuals, is remembered today. At its core, it concerns how such a place is remembered, reshaped, or repurposed once it no longer serves its original function.

The findings, based on a hermeneutic perspective and through site visits and website analysis, reveal that certain actors are actively engaged in the transmission of cultural heritage. The study concludes that coordinating actors are essential to ensure both visibility and accessibility.
