Optimization of Manual Handling in Terminal Unloading (English)
Abstract [en]
This report is a case study focusing on logistics within terminal operations, transport, and efficiency. The purpose of this study is to propose solutions that optimize logistics in both external and internal aspects, leading to shorter lead times. The thesis focuses on streamlining work in the terminal with respect to time and finding methods that are both practical and efficient.
The improvement proposals utilized a focus on standardization, hiring more staff alternatively repositioning staff members and layout format change in the terminal. The material handling system that is currently in use requires to be updated and this is conducted by creating standardization where the case studies against which the project is compared prove that it can be done if implemented properly. Further studies are necessary to determine where focus should be directed to optimize the system's effectiveness. The existing data pinpoints areas of concern, highlighting the need for enhanced efficiency. The result has come to show that redistributing personnel alternatively hire more workers and a restructure of the layout are measures that would reduce times.
The study shows that implementation of standardization and restructuring would, within a theoretical framework, have the greatest impact on reducing cycle and lead times.
