Abstract [en]

This is a study on what messages can be interpretated from the Swedish hardcore punk scene and its role as a popular educator. Is it possible to view the Swedish hardcore punk scene as educational? Through hermeneutic quality analyses of popular education, and the major parts of the hardcore punk scene in Sweden the study examines the messages of each part in order to make a joint analysis to see how they relate to each other and to popular education. This is done with the help of semiotic, hermeneutic and subcultural theory to help shed light on the typical attributes and aspects, and to see how they relate to each other in order to see what deeper meaning they possess. This enables the study to single out and identify what messages each part sends to its participants. The study shows that there are several ways in which they correlate, mainly in the values they pass on to their participants, and some ways in which they only partly or do not correlate. The messages that correlate are political, anti-fascism, value of the individual and community. The results also show that there is an inconclusion as to whether the Swedish hardcore punk scene and the popular education can be viewed in the same way, even though they relate in several ways. More extensive further studies would show a more precise result.
