The purpose of this essay is to examine folktales from the Hagfors area in Värmland, Sweden to understand how mythical giants have been depicted a hundred years ago to the present time. The scientific methods used in this essay are qualitative content analysis and narrative analysis. The result of this essay has concluded that the typical giants of old in Värmland have been used in stories to explain natural formations. It has also concluded that the purpose of folktales retold in the present day is broader in the sense that it is not only to retell, but also includes efforts to preserve cultural heritage in accordance with local policy.
