Democratic trolls and invisible manly girls. : A study about the didactic potential in Tove Janssons short story The Invisible Child (1962) (English)
Abstract [en]

This essay examines how Tove Jansson’s short story “The Invisible Child” (1962) can have a didactic potential when it is juxtaposed with the values of the school of the Swedish curriculum. The Didactic potential of the essay is based on Malin Alkestrand’s interpretation of the concept, as she uses it in herdissertation “Magiska möjligheter” (2016). To make relevant contet visible, a gender perspective together with a literary interpretation of the literarys work’s plot and content.

The results of the study show that the short story represents a strong didactic potential as it sheds lighton several important and interesting themes that can be explored in educational activities, such asaffirmation and breaking of gender stereotypes, as well as democratic and non-democratic characters. The results and discussion also highlight that the fairy tale genre as a whole can constitute a didactic potential.

Abstract [sv]

Den här uppsatsen undersöker hur Tove Janssons novell Det osynliga barnet (1962) kan utgöra endidaktisk potential när materialet ställs mot skolans värdegrund. Uppsatsens didaktiska potential utgårfrån Malin Alkestrands tolkning av begreppet som hon använder det i avhandlingen Magiska möjligheter (2016). För att synliggöra relevant innehåll har ett genusperspektiv tillsammans med en litteraturvetenskaplig applicering av aktantmodellen använts men aktantmodellen har även använts för att presentera en tolkning av det litterära verkets handling och innehåll.

Resultatet av undersökningen visar att Det osynliga barnet (1962) utgör en god didaktisk potential då den belyser flera viktiga och intressanta teman som kan arbetas med i den pedagogiska verksamheten, såsom bekräftandet av könsstereotyper, brytandet av dessa samt även demokratiska och icke-demokratiska karaktärer. Resultatet och diskussionen belyser även att sagoberättelsen som helhet kan utgöra en didaktisk potential.
