Genderlect in teaching books for upper secondary school. : A comparative teaching book study of the gender aspect in linguistic variation. (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]
The purpose of this essay is to do a comparative textbook study of textbooks written before and after the new curriculum, Lgy 11. The teaching books are analyzed based on the content in genderlect and how it is presented. The results are then discussed, and conclusions are drawn about how the society has affected the design of the textbooks. Previous research shows that many textbooks are male dominated and that gender equality risks not being achieved in the school world. It is also clear that neither women’s nor men’s language is better, it all comes down to attitudes to how different individuals speak. The results show that the content and the presentation of the content vary and that it is possible to see some connections in the differences and if the textbooks are written before or after Lgy 11. The conclusion is that several of the analyzed textbooks contribute to maintaining negative gender values. Two of the six examined textbooks are most optimal from different points of view. One contributes the least to maintaining marginalizing gender values, while the other provides the best overview of linguistic variation with focus on the gender aspect.
