The Representation of Lived Religion in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam : A Textbook Analysis of Religious Teaching Materials for Upper Secondary School (English)
Abstract [en]

This study is a textbook analysis focused on examining how lived religion is represented in religious education materials, with a focus on the Abrahamic religions while also highlighting the differences in the representation of these religions. Lived religion refers to the religious experiences and practices individuals engage in daily, forming a central part of religious practice. The study focuses on analyzing three textbooks through seven dimensions of lived religion, using a qualitative textbook analysis. Previous research has shown that religious education textbooks often focus on history and factual content, which aligns with the results of this study. The conclusion highlights the need for more personal stories and examples of lived religion in textbooks in order to provide students with a more dynamic and concrete view of religion as a changing, everyday practice. The results show that lived religion is partially included in the textbooks, but often in a superficial manner with a strong focus on historical and theoretical perspectives rather than contemporary practices.
