The aim of this study is to investigate what type of art education and career possibilities were available for women artists during the 19th and 20th century in Sweden with the artist Kerstin Cardon as this study´s starting point. Feminist art history is the theoretical framework for this study and a qualitative text analysis,and a reception historical analysis is applied to investigate how Cardon´s art and career were described in newspaper articles published during the artist´s lifetime. The results show that the newspaper articles written about Cardon were mainly positive and that the artist´s career as both an artist and an art teacher were successful with the limits set for women artists at the time.
