This thesis examines how Värmlands Museum utilized scenography to enhance the experience of Anna Clarén's photography exhibition Need to be Needed. By applying theoretical perspectives from feminist theory, spatial theory, and sensory perception, the study analyzes how the exhibition's visual and spatial elements influence visitors' interpretation and emotional experience. Using a qualitative approach and a hermeneutic analysis method, the research explores the signs and symbols that emerge in the exhibition, as well as how color and light are employed to create a specific atmosphere. The layout, lighting, and material choices of the photography exhibition are analyzed in relation to the visitor's bodily and emotional engagement. The findings demonstrate that the thoughtful scenography amplifies Clarén's work and offers a deeper understanding of themes such as identity, belonging, and gender. The thesis highlights how museum exhibition design can create meaningful art experiences by integrating scenographic principles.
