Automated resource management with wireless monitoring : From idea to implementation: A step towards smart parking systems (English)
Abstract [en]

Monotonous tasks in everyday life, previously requiring human interaction, are increasingly shifting towards autonomous embedded systems. Wireless protocols are often used in these systems to replace the need for human input. During development, it is important to consider that wireless protocols do not provide any guarantees in communication between two devices, while autonomous systems require high reliability and have low tolerance for inaccuracies. For the system to be reliable, a balance between these two polarities is necessary. This thesis explores the possibility of developing an autonomous and wireless system for resource management using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). The system aims to solve a problem for our client, Capgemini Engineering in Karlstad, who wishes to automate their parking system. The system will implement wireless monitoring to eliminate the need for manual input. To achieve this, an extensive investigation within relevant protocols and hardware has been conducted. Through careful design and development, the system has proven to be reliable and effective in its purpose. The thesis and final product demonstrate that BLE can effectively be used as a wireless communication protocol within an autonomous and wireless monitoring system for resource management, provided that implementation is done with caution and forethought.
