This study aims to examine the points of contact between Friston's Free Energy Principle and Freud's structural model. This is done in connection with a new wave of research, mainly within the neuropsychoanalytic movement, which tries to use Friston's research to re-revitalize some of Freud's old ideas about the psyche and its dynamic functions. Methodologically, a literature study was conducted to find the relevant articles, either through databases or references. The results were then divided into “General points of contacts”, "Id”, “Ego” and “Super-ego” , of which similarities and differences between the Free energy principle and Freud's structural model were presented as it was declared in the literature. In the discussion certain aspects of the result are discussed, and a proposal is made for a model that would serve as a common view for the two approaches.

Denna studie ämnar undersöka beröringspunkterna mellan Fristons ”Free Energy Principle” och Freuds strukturella modell. Detta görs i samband med en ny våg av forskning, främst inom den neuropsykoanalytiska rörelsen, som försöker använda sig av Fristons forskning för att re-vitalisera några av Freuds gamla idéer om psyket och dess dynamiska funktioner. Metodmässigt gjordes en litteraturstudie för att finna de relevanta artiklarna, antingen genom databaser eller referenser. Resultatet delades sen in i ”General points of contacts”, ”Id, “Ego” och “Super-ego” varav likheter och olikheter mellan ”the Free energy principle” och Freuds strukturella modell presenterades som den skrivits i litteraturen. I diskussionen sedan så diskuteras vissa aspekter av resultatet samt så föreslås ett förslag på en modell som skulle fungera som en gemensam uppfattning för dem två synsätten.
