The chatter in Fagersta. : A study of students’ attitude towards their own dialect. (English)
Abstract [en]

The main purpose of this study is to investigate what attitude upper secondary school have to their own dialect and to others. The second purpose is to investigate the relationship between the attitude to dialectal language use and the choice of upper secondary school program. This is done partly through a comparison analysis, mainly between the programs at an uppersecondary school in Fagersta. I also compare the differences between sex, parents'background and the informants' desire for future professions.

The survey is conducted through a survey to reach a large number of informants. The questionnaire was distributed to the upper secondary school's 2nd year students, the reason for this choice is that these students completed the course Swedish 1 which includes linguistic variation. Firstly, the informants should answer questions about attitude towards dialects but also socio-economic factors and the frequency of use of suburban Swedish, or so-calledortenslang.

The survey shows that the attitude difference is small when it comes to Fagersta's dialect, most of the informants are positive. The most interesting was regarding ortenslangens wideinfluence on the informants.

Keywords: Dialect, attitude, Fagersta, survey study, suburb Swedish, upper secondary school program.
