The aim of this study is to illuminate how talking, in interaction between children and adults, could be a way of learning, and to develop the way of picture making. A literary survey deals with theories and pedagogical models, which contributes to produce a more conscious attitude towards pictorial language and to work with pictorial processes. Through qualitative interviews an investigation is made how two teachers within the compulsory school, one artist and one art pedagogue think and relate to pictorial language. The didactical work with children is also discussed. The result shows that the opportunity of learning and a developed way of picture making could be possible through talking. But to create such a situation it is claimed that adults are sensitive and dare to meet the child in the picture making process. Talking is an art.

Denna undersöknings syfte är att belysa hur samtalet i interaktion mellan barn och vuxna, kan vara en väg till lärande, och ett utvecklat bildskapande. I litteraturstudien behandlas teorier och pedagogiska modeller som bidrar till att skapa ett mera medvetet förhållningssätt till bildspråket och till att arbeta med bildprocesser. Genom kvalitativa intervjuer undersöks hur två lärare inom grundskolan, en konstnär samt en konstpedagog ser på sitt tänkande och förhållande till bildspråk. Det didaktiska arbetet med barnen behandlas också. Resultatet visar att möjligheten till ett lärande och ett utvecklat bildskapande finns i samtalet. Men för att det skall ske krävs att vuxna är lyhörda och vågar "möta" barnet i bildskapandet. Att samtala är en konst.
