Sweden is a multicultural country. People of different cultural backgrounds live side by side. Because school is an extension of society in general, this meeting of different cultures also occurs in school every day. A persons values and life experiences are dependent of where and in what culture she is brought up. This cultural diversity can, and have enriched the Swedish society. When people of different cultural background meet, there’s always the risk of misunderstandings and conflicts. Either because of differences in opinion, or because the understanding of each other just isn’t there. It’s therefor of great importance, that all school personal has knowledge of other cultures then their own. Knowledge is the only way to gain understanding of different peoples differences and similarities. The aim of this study is to map out different situations which can arise in the meeting of different cultures in school. My questions are answered by a literature study and an interview with a teacher with a long experience of working with children from different cultures.
