Biståndshandläggare är en yrkesroll med olika förväntningar och krav som ibland kan strida mot varandra. Syftet med vår studie är att få en ökad förståelse för vad biståndshandläggarens yrkesroll kan innebära. Studien utgår ifrån en kvalitativ metod med intervjuer i insamlandet av data. Analysen har till viss del inspirerats av fenomenologin. Syftets frågeställningar var: Vilka otydligheter finns det i yrkesrollen? Vad är det biståndshandläggaren gör i sitt yrke? Vad styr handlandet i yrket? Utifrån frågeställningarna framkom 10 kategorier. Resultatet visade att det fanns en önskan från biståndshandläggarna om en gemensam titel och att yrkesrollen upplevdes som otydlig för andra. Biståndshandläggarna anser att deras arbete är komplicerat, krävande och roligt. Professionalitet och förhållningssätt är viktiga i yrket. I analysen framkom ”Tänket” som ett viktigt begrepp i yrkesrollen. Undersökningen har gett oss fördjupade kunskaper och förståelse för biståndshandläggarens yrkesroll. Vår förhoppning är att andra som har intresse inom området vill läsa uppsatsen.

The intention with this essay was to examine and get increased knowledge about what the work of a social assistance officer implies. An occupation with demands and many different expectations from the surrounding world. Our studie is based on a qualitative method and we have choosed interviews in our collection of data. The analysis of the interviews has been inspired by the theory of the phenomenology. The results has been categorized out of three questions: Is there any indistinctions in the roll of a social assistance officer? What`s the main thing the social assistence officer do? What governs the practice? The results shows a need for a common title and the occupation is in many ways unclear. The social assistance officers regard their work as complicated and demanding but also very rewarding. It is also important to be professional in the relation with the caretaker. In our analysis was “tänket” brought forward as an important concept in the practice. The work has given us a deeper understanding about the role of a social assistance officer. We have also got new knowledge of the practice. We hope that both professionals and other interested in this field of practice will find this essay interesting.
