Amongst Angels and Demons : A qualitative narratological text analysis of the representation of Angels and Demons in the books by Cassandra Clare (English)
Abstract [en]
The purpose of this essay is to examine how the perception of angels and demons has changed through time and also how Cassandra Clare chooses to use these entities in her books. The essay uses a quality narratological text analysis to examine this and to compare Clare’s use of the entities against previous research and the Bible. The results show that angels have gone from their original anonymous messenger role to humanlike entities while demons originated from early Christian teachings and do not have an exact equivalent in other religions. The conclusion is that humans’ perceptions regarding angels and demons has changed with time and Clare combines imagination with common perceptions to create something that is her own.
