Abstract [en]

Coil winding machines are essential and have been for producing electrical component such as transformers, resistors, field cores, bobbins and armature cores, but the commercial winding solutions can be non-cost-efficient and time consuming. This project aims to design and develop an in-house coil winding solution with honeycomb (or basket) winding properties to achieve precise and efficient results in a transformer. The solution will be using two stepper motors for an automated mechanism with tailored honeycomb windings for optimized performance, together with an interface for customization and robust structural design and components for good and reliable results and repeatability. The prototype successfully produced consistent honeycomb windings that meet the geometry and performance expectations for transformer applications. The machine demonstrated reliable synchronization and control, although some limitations in UI responsiveness and motor control were identified. Future improvements are proposed to enhance the system’s robustness and usability.
