"Det ska vara spännande" - hur barn använder sitt skriftspråk på fritiden
2005 (svensk)Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree)Oppgave
Abstract [en]

The reason why I chose this topic for my essay are my thoughts around the question: How important is it to read a large amount of fiction literature to achieve a steady progression of ones language and intellect. The purpose with my report is to enlighten the writing and reading activities different students do in their spare time. I want to find out what their written language look like and why it looks as it does. A question that has caught my interest is: Is there other ways of developing our communication skills and intelligence than the traditional literary way. I have built the report on literary studies and qualitative interviews with students in school year five and six. I have found that all the students that I have interviewed, even the ones with great reading and writing difficulties, in different ways use the written language in their spare time. The students mainly choose writing and reading activities that they find entertaining, but sometimes they also choose to read and write because it has a fulfilling purpose. The parents and the environment around the children as they grow up is extremely important for how they develop their written language. It can be difficult for school to compensate for these cultural and social differences. Since all language communication develop the children’s thinking ability and knowledge is retrieved in collaboration with individuals, different ways of communicating should be used and encouraged in school.
