Abstract [en]

Given the burdensome disease, cancer, and the challenges presented by limited resources to deal with it, the field of oncology looks to artificial intelligence (AI) as a potential help. This exploratory study seeks to understand the AI implementation process, and to understand the barriers and facilitators to AI adoption. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 stakeholders in strategic positions. Interviews were transcribed, followed by a thematic analysis. Results show that attitudes towards AI adoption and use are generally positive. Communication and support, as well as quality data and good AI performance within the clinical context, aid the implementation of AI. Benefits such as time saving and reduced workload for clinicians are noted. However, challenges related to funding, unsatisfactory AI performance, and lack of transparency can negatively impact adoption. Legal challenges exist regarding AI projects and required data, however compliance with GDPR is endorsed. To aid AI adoption, issues contributing to uncertainty and factors resulting in lack of trust need to be addressed.

Abstract [en]

Background: COVID-19 has had a significant impact on the public’s health and well-being due to infections and restrictions imposed during the crisis. Recreational activities are important for the public’s well-being; however, the public’s safety from the COVID-19 virus is the top priority. Sweden, a country with a decentralized public health and welfare system, relied on less stringent approaches for handling the crisis. The limited restrictions in Sweden allowed recreational activities to take place despite the pandemic, which could be attributed to considerations for the public’s well-being. Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate municipal approaches for handling and supporting recreational activities during the COVID-19 crisis. Methods: We conducted an empirical study (qualitative and quantitative), using an online survey for data collection, with 23 participants. They were representatives holding mostly managerial roles in 18 distinct municipalities (18 counties). A thematic analysis was conducted to analyze open-ended responses, and descriptive statistics were used to summarize the closed-ended responses. Results: In this study, we report on the status of municipalities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The highlighted results showed a significant impact on the municipalities as a result of COVID-19, where 78% (18/23) of participants stated significant changes due to the pandemic. Moreover, 91% (21/23) indicated efforts and approaches for supporting recreational activities during COVID-19. Following national guidelines for the public’s health and safety was indicated by 78% (18/23) of participants. Information and communications technology (ICT) was considered significant for dealing with COVID-19 according to 87% (20/23) of participants. Our qualitative results further showed details of the public’s health and safety considerations, the efforts to support recreational activities particularly for youth, and the role and requirements of ICT. Challenges relating to the usability of ICT were also highlighted. Conclusions: Despite the critique of Sweden’s lenient strategy for handling the COVID-19 crisis, our results showed significant considerations for the public’s safety and well-being by the municipalities (regional and local levels) in this study. The Swedish approach to handling the crisis involved trusting the public with safety guidelines in addition to efforts for the public’s safety, supporting the public’s well-being with approaches for maintaining recreational activities, and giving special care to the youth. Despite having technological solutions in place, challenges in using digital solutions and requirements for future development were noted.

Abstract [en]

The capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) systems bring about new leaps in organizational change. While several work processes are now digital, and are increasingly getting automated, organizational processes thrive from augmenting AI-based tasks and human tasks. One framework depicting the augmentation between humans and AI is the delegation framework which theorizes on delegation of tasks between human agents and agentic IS artifacts. However, as the framework is limited to elaborating human agent-agentic IS agent roles, the role of the developer is missing. This study aims to shed light on the role of the developer within the delegation framework. We explore the implication of this involvement through the theoretical lens of adaptive structuration. We use cases drawn from 12 literature sources, qualified by assessing them used against the delegation framework guidelines, and analyzed them to identify developer roles. Our findings show that the developer influences the processes underlying the functioning of the agentic IS artifact, its attributes, its evolution, and mechanisms for delegation. The state of agency in an artifact is influenced and even largely defined by the developer. This implies that agency in an IS artifact can be viewed as encompassing more than their own abilities to act within their environments.

Abstract [en]

Background and purpose: Working collaboratively as a multidisciplinary team in the treatment and care of cancer patients is proven effective in increasing the quality of patient care. A multidisciplinary team (MDT) meeting (MDTM) is the main vehicle that facilitates this collaborative work between different healthcare specialities, and an appropriate meeting record is essential to communicate the meeting's outcomes. There is limited research to date regarding MDTM documentation, and here we report on a sample of healthcare professional's perspectives on current practices. Methodology: A survey, distributed to a purposive snowball sample, is used to collect the perceptions on record-keeping at MDTMs from involved healthcare workers. The survey is descriptive and exploratory in nature and uses closed and open-ended questions offered in both English and Swedish. Results: With a response of 37 healthcare workers, several commonly understood practices of MDTMs are confirmed, documentation is mostly electronic, encompasses suggested information, and the record is mostly acceptable in quality. The issues of responsibility, registering attendance, and verification of documentation can be improved. Conclusion: Electronic documentation is a laudable step that shows advancement in MDTM record-keeping. The highlighted quality of the records suggests that MDTM proceedings are reasonably well documented. There remain some important questions, with regard to standardization, centralization, and the responsibility for record-keeping at MDTMs.

Abstract [en]

Restrictions imposed on societies across the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic have had direct and indirect consequences to the public’s health and well-being. Unlike many countries, Sweden’s restrictions were significantly milder. Businesses offering recreational services provide activities that are important to the well-being of the public. This study explores the status and perspectives of 34 Swedish businesses that provide recreational activities during COVID-19 and the role of technology on recreational services. Results show that businesses comply with guidelines and recommendations, have trust in the government despite lack of sufficient support, and have special considerations for youth. Technology was significant in aiding businesses to cope with COVID-19. Trends reported are: adoption of new remote technologies, increase of digital tools use, offerings of online services, and openness to new solutions.

Abstract [en]

Many participatory design methods and techniques assume that the designer and the participant are in the same location. In this study, we explore methods for Distributed Participatory Design. Combining the Wizard-of-Oz technique with oral discussions, in three iterations, we allowed users to actively participate, over distance, in designing a solution for their Events Management and Booking System. A video prototype was captured and used as a specification to communicate the system requirements. System development issues that arose were captured in a log and used to explore the effectiveness of such a specification in the development process. The results show that using wizardry in distributed participatory design is a viable method for allowing active participation and that video prototypes can sufficiently communicate system requirements.
