    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract

    Postpolis

    Mekonnen Tesfahuney & Katarina Schough

The Nomos of Tourism2010Conference paper (Other (popular science, discussion, etc.))
    Abstract

The article conceptualizes tourism as a world ordering process, with "whiteness" as the normative position of the tourist Subject. It takes its theoretical cues from the works of Carl Schmitt and Deleuze/Gauttari. Tourism is conceptiualized as a Nomos - a (geo)political and world ordering power involving three interrelated aspects/processes. Namely, nehmen the conquest of territory/space under the sign of tourism; teilen - establishing a touristifed spatial, juridical and lived order in the service of tourism; and weiden exploiting (utilizing) bodies, spaces and territories to enhance touristic worth/value. As such, tourism is a de- and re-territorialization force and process. The book conceptualiazes tourism as one aspect of the global capitalist mobility apparatus (machine).

The global mobility apparatus (machine) is central to the production and consumtion of desires and spaces of tourism. It channels and orders touristic mobilities, the circulation of images and imaginations at various spatial scales.

The second and related theme of the article (un)covers the (in)visible White Subject of Tourism Studies, Policy and Industry. The tourist subject as white forms the taken-for-granted starting point for the theoretical premises, conceptual apparatus and methodology as well as the analytical lenses of toruism studies.

Geodatasamverkan - nyttan för en kommun att delta2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The Swedish model for developing the national infrastructure is based on increasing the cooperation between municipalities, government and businesses. The method to establish the infrastructure in Sweden is the geodatastrategin. The effort to implement the geodatastrategin has resulted in an interaction model, Geodatasamverkan.

The purpose of this study is to alert municipalities and to investigate the usefulness of their participation in Geodatasamverkan. The study also presents examples of different applications where geodata can be used within a municipality.

The report is based on literature reviews, surveys and interviews. Online Surveys were sent to some of Sweden's municipalities to get an overall idea of how they make use of geodata and their general attitude towards Geodatasamverkan. Two different custom made questionnaires were sent out, one adapted to those municipalities that participate in Geodatasamverkan and one adapted to those who do not. Those who were asked are staff responsible for GIS at a total of 62 municipalities in Västra Götalands län, Dalarnas län, Örebro län and Värmlands län, which sums up to a total of 39 people.

For a more detailed investigation, staff responsible for GIS at five different municipalities in Värmland were chosen for interviews. The interviewed persons were selected on the criteria that most municipalities can relate to the investigation. Within the selected municipalities the study includes municipalities with varying GIS activities and situations according to their participation in Geodatasamverkan.

The result concludes that municipalities can benefit greatly from participating in Geodatasamverkan. However, it is necessary that geodata is used in a substantial way within the municipality, and that geodata is implemented in several administrations. Participation in Geodatasamverkan results in access for municipalities to a large amount of geodata for a minor fee. The survey shows that participating municipalities order more of the set-covering images, basic maps and elevation data compared to before. This is due to the previously high expenditures of this type of data. The administrative process to manage contracts and invoices decrease, since only one contract and one invoice needs to be dealt with for participation.

    Abstract [en]

The aim of this work is to investigate what after-school teachers from various schools and after-schools feel about the importance of physical activity. But also how they work to stimulate and support children/pupils physical activity development in the after-school center.

The work also highlights health from a physical perspective. The study provides a historic look of the conditions for the after-schools. Through qualitative interviews I want to find out how the after-school pedagogue thinks of physical activities importance for the health and development of the children. How they work with their new assignment Lgr11 to be a supplement to school. In summary the results indicate that all the respondents think that it is important to work with physical activity. Childrens interest have decreased in physical activities while the mobile, the Ipod and the computer have become more interesting hobbies. The leisure pedagogue likes to offer a “smorgasbord” to the children/pupils that contain various activities. It is very important that they are allowed to choose activity themselves.

The physical activity should be done in an enjoyable way. Some leisure- pedagogues thought that by being flexible in their planning, they could stimulate childrens interest in physical activity and also social interaction at the after-school center.

Outdoor Recreation and Environmentalism: Social and Spatial Perspectives2011Licentiate thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Outdoor recreation and environmentalism are interlinked phenomena. Historically, they have clear parallels; both emerged at the dawn of the last century, drew inspiration from the Romantic Movement, and were reactions against elements in the modern industrialized and urbanized society. The establishment of the national parks in Sweden (first in Europe) could be seen as one illustration of this linkage; the protected natural areas came to serve as landscapes for the practice of outdoor recreation.

From this beginning, outdoor recreation has been a retreat for environmentalists and an expression of “close to nature” ideals but also a source of inspiration for critics of modern society.  Within this context, this thesis explores the relationship between outdoor recreation and environmentalism of today. The study focuses on how people who express an environmental commitment relate to, and use, nature and the landscape as a recreational resource in contemporary Sweden and is empirically based upon quantitative and qualitative data, including a case study of the organization Nature and Youth Sweden (Fältbiologerna).

Tourism and protected areas: motives, actors and processes2006In: The International Journal of Biodiversity Science and Management, ISSN 1745-1590, Vol. 2, no 4, p. 350-358Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Following the paradigm shift in nature conservation policy towards the inclusion of local inhabitants in the planning and management of protected areas, tourism is emphasised as a means to achieve economic development in peripheral areas. Governance issues and the real impacts from tourism on development are thus often under scrutiny. This article focuses on the role of tourism in the political process of designating protected areas. How does the inclusion of the tourism argument affect designation processes? What kind of tourism is being promoted and how can it be conceptualised with regard to human views of the use of nature? An ecostrategic framework is presented to illustrate the essential land-use choices available. Three cases of protected area designation processes are used to address the issue of tourism: the failure of the Kiruna National Park proposal and the successful implementation of the snowmobile regulation area in Funäsdalen and Fulufjället National Park. The analysis shows that while tourism may increase local acceptance of protected areas, the power of this argument also depends on contextual and process factors.
