    Abstract

    Wermland Paper är ett medelstort företag med cirka 350 medarbetare som producerar säckpapper och tekniska specialpapper. Omsättningen uppgår till cirka 1 miljard SEK och omkring 90 % av Wermland Papers produktion exporteras till cirka 70 länder över hela världen. Wermland Paper har en fragmenterad kundstruktur, som består av 800 kunder.

    Den tidigare situationen var den att Wermland Papers två pappersbruk arbetade med två versioner av samma affärssystem. Dessutom uppfattades detta affärssystem vara dåligt implementerat på de båda bruken. Under våren 2006 beslutade därför Wermland Papers styrelse att det existerande affärssystemet avseende OLF-modulerna (Order, Lager, Fakturering) skulle ersättas av ett nytt webbaserat affärssystem. Utvecklingen och implementeringen av detta nya affärssystem, som stöd för fallföretagets två bruk och deras olikartade säljorderprocesser, är med andra ord ett exempel på ett fleranläggningsprojekt.

    Kapitlets syfte är att beskriva och analysera framgångsfaktorer vid ett affärssystembyte för ett medelstort företag i den svenska pappersbruksindustrin. När studien inleddes visste förstås ingen att det aktuella affärssystembytet skulle bli framgångsrikt. Ett drygt år efter införandet av de nya OLF-modulerna uppfattas detta affärssystembyte som en framgångssaga inom Wermland Paper. Lärdomarna från denna fallstudie torde därför vara till nytta för andra organisationer som står i begrepp att vilja genomföra ett framgångsrikt affärssystembyte.

    Critical Success Conditions for Enterprise Systems Change Projects2010Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract

    Enterprise systems are configurable and customized computer-based information systems, claiming to provide a total, integrated solution to firms' information-processing needs. 'Management support', 'User Involvement', and 'Project Management Experience' are considered as three of the most important critical success conditions for Enterprise systems change projects. The main purpose of this paper is to identify and discuss new preconditions for established critical success conditions in Enterprise systems change projects. Traditional Enterprise systems technology and traditional plan-driven project management methods are not in an effective way supporting the established critical success conditions for Enterprise systems change projects. Supported by the findings from one case study, we propose that new preconditions, such as modern Enterprise systems technology, more narrowly defined projects and agile methods are matching each other. We also propose that this combination of new preconditions is more appropriate for supporting the realization of critical success conditions for Enterprise systems change projects

    Abstract

    Traditional ES technology and traditional project management methods are supporting and matching each other. But they are not in an effective way sup-porting the critical success conditions for ES development. Although the findings from one case study of a successful modern ES change project is not strong empirical evidence, we carefully propose that the new modern ES technology is sup-porting and matching agile project management methods. In other words, it pro-vides the required flexibility which makes it possible to put into practice the agile way of running projects, both for the system supplier and for the customer. In addition, we propose that the combination of modern ES technology and agile project management methods are more appropriate for supporting the realization of critical success conditions for ES development. The main purpose of this paper is to compare critical success conditions for modern enterprise systems development projects with critical success conditions for agile information systems development projects

    Abstract [en]

    Even if some management fads like business process reengineering, appear to be outdated, process orientation seems to be here to stay. Almost every organisation describes its activities nowadays in terms of business processes. The industrial view of business processes as a refinement of raw material into finished products has been challenged as the only possible perspective on business processes. The significance of communication and coordination in business processes has been emphasised in many theoretical and practical approaches. In order to develop information systems for business process it is necessary to describe and evaluate coordination and communication. This research workshop is devoted to issues of communication and coordination in business processes. Questions to be addressed include but are not limited to the coordination of work within and between organisations; the role of information technology in coordination of business processes; modelling, evaluation and business processes (re)design; as well as what infrastructures are needed for communication and coordination in business processes.



    Besides these evident practical issues there are other issues of more conceptual and theoretical character which must be addressed like: How are the concepts of communication and coordination related to each other?What is coordinated in business processes? What is the role of human beings vs information technology in business processes?

    Under VT-76 har kurs C2:6 (Systmering C) getts i en vidareutvecklad form. Ett "lärarteam" har därvid haft ett kollektivt ansvar för kursutveckling och kursgenomförande. Förutom ett modifierat kursinnehåll har nya (?) undervisnings- och examinationsformer införts. Vi har försökt lansera idén "aktiv inlärning" som i korthet innebär:



    - aktivt erfarenhetsutbyte mellan kursledare och studenter med spontan och naturlig två-vägs-kommunikation

    - tentamensfri examination där de studerande istället på obligatoriska seminarier "aktivt" redovisat sina grupparbetsresultat (inlämningsuppgifter)



    Vi påstår att en aktiv inlärningsprocess är att föredra för vårt delområde eftersom problemorienterad systemering i praktiken i hög grad omfattar samarbetsformer och kommunikation mellan människor.

    Brukar ditt företag tillkalla en specialist när utvecklingsproblem skall lösas? Kommer du i kontakt med ADB-konsulter, beteendevetare eller produktionsrationaliserare vid utveckling av företagets verksamhet? Litar du på dessa specialister när de föreslår nya ADB-system, samarbetsträning eller produktionsutveckling? Händer det att företaget gör felinvesteringar genom att specialisterna "ordinerar fel medicin"?



    Att satsa på "bra" förändringsåtgärder för aktuella problem blir allt viktigare för företag i dagens allt mer dynamiska och krävande omvärld. Men samtaidigt minnebär denna diagnosfas - eller som vi kallar den förändringsanalys - ofta ett intutivt och svårstrukturerat arbete. Finns det något sätt att mer systematiskt angripa ett företags utvecklingsproblem? Författarna presenterar ett exempel på en systematisk ansats för förändringsanalys som har utvecklats och tillämpats i nära samarbete med flera olika organisationer.

    Informationssystem utvecklas för att stödja människor i deras verksamheter. Informationssystem används som stöd för människors kunskapsbildning och handlande i verksamheter. I den här boken presenteras en metodik för att specificera inforamtionssystem på ett användarorienterat och systematiskt sätt. Processen att specificera inforamtionssystem delas upp i tre steg:



    1. Förändringsanalys (Är det informationssystem som är en möjlig och lämplig lösning på en organisations problem?)

    2. Verksamhetsstudier (Vilka olika inforamtionssystem skall man utveckla och vilka bidrag skall de ge till verksamheten?)



    3. Informationsanalys (Vad skall informationssystemen göra, dvs vilka typer av meddelanden och regler skall de innehålla?)



    Metodiken presenteras med hjälp av illustrativt genomgående praktikfall. Förutom de tre ovan nämnda områdena behandlas även datasystemutformning, dvs hur användarnas specifikationer kan utnyttjas för att utforma önskade datasystem.



    Boken vänder sig till studerande vid universitet/högskolor och andra läroanstalter. Boken vänder sig även till personer verksamma i praktikfältet, såsom systemerare och informationsystemanvändare.

    This paper reviews literature dealing with clickstream analysis and other approaches to online information search modelling as well as online consumer information utility. Limitations in each of these modelling techniques are identified as well as aspects that are indispensable for understanding consumer behaviour online. Key challenges that may arise include the reaction of a consumer to information on a website page and changes in their situation resulting from stimuli beyond the site. An alternative approach for online consumer information serving is proposed using patterns of real time activity data combined with personal factors and online information utility to better understand consumer needs

    Den digitala portfolions användande i skolan - hinder och möjligheter2002Report (Refereed)

    Portfoliometodiken i skolan innebär att eleverna skapar sin egen portfolio, en mapp, där de systematiskt samlar sina bästa arbeten. Denna kan vara datorlagrad eller fysisk. Syftet är att eleven och läraren tillsammans, under lång tid, ska kunna följa elevens personliga utveckling. Eleven ska medverka vid valet av arbeten som ska lagras även om detta ofta sker i samråd med läraren. En digital portfolio är ett exempel på hur datorn kan utnyttjas som ett multimedialt verktyg för detta ändamål. Inom regeringens satsning på kompetensutveckling för lärare, ITiS, har många projekt med digital portfolio genomförts och genomförs fortfarande, på skolor runt om i Sverige. Mina syften med den här studien är att beskriva hur arbetet i skolan påverkas av användandet av portfoliometodiken, de stöd för portfoliometodiken och användandet av portfolio man eventuellt kan finna i styrdokumenten och hur användningen av datorer i skolan över tiden har påverkat dagens utvecklingsarbete med digital portfolio. Metoden som använts i uppsatsen är litteraturstudier och en intervjustudie med sex djupintervjuer med lärare som undervisar i årskurserna 7-9. Intervjustudien bygger på en modell (se figur 2.1) som jag har utformat efter den diskussion som förs i litteraturen, bland annat PORTFOLIO -SÄTT ATT arbeta, tänka OCH lära (Ellmin, 2000) och Portfoliometodiken - undervisningsstrategi och utvärderingsinstrument (Taube, 1997) om portfoliometodiken. Intervjuerna har sedan analyserats utifrån det hermeneutiska synsättet att människor grundar sin förståelse utifrån tidigare förförståelse. De flesta lärarna ser många pedagogiska möjligheter med att använda en digital portfolio. De får en större överblick över elevens utveckling och kan därmed bättre stödja eleven i skolarbetet. Portfolion kan även stödja kommunikationen med hemmen. Portfoliometodiken kan också vara ett stöd för att bättre nå upp till styrdokumentens mål och riktlinjer. Det finns inga hinder för att använda digital portfolio i styrdokumenten men det finns heller inget som direkt stöder metodiken. Genom att arbeta med de vanligaste applikationerna, som MS Office, kan ITiS-projektet leda till att lärarna får en ökad datorvana. Däremot fann jag inget i intervjuerna som visade att lärarna hade utvecklat större förståelse för datorn som tekniskt hjälpmedel. Flera av lärarna anser att användandet av digital portfolio är en utveckling som kommer ta tid, datorerna är för få och datanätet är ännu inte utbyggt för åtkomst utifrån. Lärarna har påbörjat arbetet med egen utveckling av ett digitalt portfolioprogram men har ännu inte utvecklat en prototyp. Eftersom de flesta av lärarna inte sett något fungerande portfolioprogram utgjorde designen av programmet ett hinder. De intervjuade lärarna ser fler möjligheter än hinder med att använda en digital portfolio. De flesta vill gärna börja använda digital portfolio på högstadiet tack vare de pedagogiska vinsterna. De anser att de tekniska hindren som finns kan överbryggas.

    Lärplattformar har under de senaste tio åren blivit allt mer vanligt inom undervisningsinstitutioner. Till att börja med var dessa system stöd för distansundervisning inom högre utbildning, men nu börjar fler och fler grundskolor och gymnasium ta dessa i användning. Det finns lite dokumentation skolor kan inhämta, gällande att lyckas med införandet och användningen av lärplattformar. Detta komplicerar hela processen för skolor som saknar den kompetens att införskaffa ett sådant system. Lärare och den administrativa personalen, som skall arbeta i systemet, måste förstå orsaken till att systemet införskaffas och förstå dess användningsområde, för att lärplattformen skall accepteras och användas.Denna studie har som syfte att studera hur lärare i Dals-Eds kommun har mottagit lärplattformen edWise, och förstå hur olika faktorer påverkar adoptionen av systemet. Studien är genomförd med kvalitativ ansats, och en explorativ undersökning har genomförts i form av en fallstudie. Respondenterna var utvalda av skolledningen, rektorer, och intervjuer i form av semistrukturerade intervjuer genomfördes. Totalt fyra lärare från tre olika skolor deltog i studien.Vad studien visade var att de faktorer som påverkade graden av adoption mest var systemets användbarhet, utbildningen lärarna fick, samt organisationens förändringsbenägenhet och acceptans. Användbarheten i systemet är bristfällig. Utbildningen lärarna har fått i systemet är inte tillräcklig, de flesta lärarna har fortfarande stora problem och känner sig inte färdigutbildade att använda systemet till fullo. Gällande organisationens förändringsbenägenhet och acceptans, visade det att skolledningen inte har kommunicerat gott nog den förändring som skulle ske, samt att lärarna inte var delaktiga i processen med upphandling och införande av systemet.Slutsatsen denna studie resulterar i, är att skolförvaltningen i Dals-Eds kommun borde ha involverat lärarna under hela processen med upphandling och införande av systemet. Lärarna borde ha involverats i upphandlingen för att hitta ett system som stödjer deras arbete på bästa sätt, och inte bara få överlämnat ett system från skolförvaltningen i kommunen som de måste använda. Här har det också visat sig att systemet har bristfälligheter gällande användbarheten. Det är krångligt att förstå hur det hänger ihop för vissa lärare och det har till dels långa svarstider som innebär mycket väntande och frustration. Det framkommer också att lärarna borde ha fått mer omfattande och kontinuerlig utbildning i systemet, då de flesta har problem med att använda det till fullo, eller känner sig osäkra i användningen.

    Information systems can be conceptualized in a number of ways. Most methodologies propose to analyze separately process and data semantics by projecting them into totally different diagram types. This system analysis and design tradition is very strong in most modeling approaches such as structured analysis as well as object-oriented design. Structural and behavioral aspects are complementary. They cannot be analyzed in isolation. Lack of a conceptual modeling approach, which can be used for verification of semantic integrity among various types of diagrams, is the cornerstone of frustration for information system architects. Inconsistency, incompleteness and ambiguity of conceptual views create difficulties in verification and validation of technical system architectures by business experts, who determine the organizational strategies. Consequently, the traditional information system methodologies are not able to bridge a communication gap among business experts and IT-system designers. Various interpretations of semantic relations in conceptual modeling approaches make the system analysis and design process more art than science. It creates difficulties to formulate comprehensible principles of decomposition and separation of concerns. Unambiguous definition of aggregation and generalization is necessary for breaking down information system functionality into coherent non-over¬lapping components. This paper concentrates on conceptual modeling enhancements, which help to avoid semantic integrity problems in conceptualizations on various levels of abstraction. The presented conceptual modeling approach is based on a single type of diagram, which can be used for reasoning on semantic integrity between business process and data across organizational and technical system boundaries.

    Vi ska i detta kapitel presentera ett integrerat ramverk för verksamhetsmodellering med tillhörande koherensanalys. I en koherensanalys undersöks sambandet mellan ett systems kommunikationsflöde med omgivningen och dess interna tillståndsförändringar. Ram¬verket fokuserar på modellering av statiska och dynamiska aspekter, där flera aktörer samverkar för att uppnå sina mål. Integration av olika beroenden har en framträdande plats i den föreslagna ansatsen för verksamhetsmodellering. I denna ansats kan vi visa hur statiska och dynamiska processdiagram kan föras samman och hur insikter från olika målsättningsperspektiv kan kombineras. Syftet är att introducera nya principer för integration av olika ansatser till analys av informationssystem.     The concept of service is comprehensible in various domains and it can be used for integrated modeling of business process and business data. Service-oriented modeling approach, which is presented in this paper, is based on a single type of diagram. It helps to reason about semantic integrity of different modeling dimensions across organizational and technical system boundaries. A well-known case study is analyzed to demonstrate how service interactions among enterprise organizational components can be represented for detecting the essential similarities and differences of business processes. The ultimate goal of this paper is to overview deficiencies of conventional modeling approaches and to present generic principles for computation neutral modeling of service architectures. Conceptual models of service interactions between organizational and technical components enable separation of crosscutting concerns in enterprise engineering without requirement to specify a complete solution. However, most information system methodologies are projecting the structural, interactive and behavioral aspects into totally different modeling dimensions. If service architectures are represented as loose collection of models, it is difficult to detect integrity problems of various diagrams

This is one of the main reasons why it is difficult to apply them for managing complexity of conceptual representations. The goal of this paper is to present conceptual modeling method, which allows constructing graphical representations of scenarios with a more comprehensible structure. Using simple interaction loops between organizational and technical components help designers to separate crosscutting concerns in system engineering without the requirement to specify a complete solution. The examples of sequential, iterative, parallel and alternative behavior are analyzed to demonstrate conceptual descriptions of use-case scenarios. The overlaying and underlying interaction loops among actors are easier to understand, extend and maintain.

    Abstract. Modelling method, which is defined by simple interaction loops between organizational and technical components can be viewed as fundamental elements for decomposition of complex business scenarios. This is important for separation of crosscutting concerns. The paper proposes a new graphical method that allows limited human mind to focus and to visualize one particular concern at a time. It also suggests design principles for the semantic integration of business and software scenarios. Separation of crosscutting concerns is performed on a basis of the standard transaction pattern. The presented modelling method can be used for introducing the evolutionary changes of requirements. This is important for managing complexity of information systems conceptualizations, especially when new changes are introduced.  It targets both business process modelling experts and information system designers. The ultimate goal of the new method is to construct and visualize business scenarios with a more comprehensible structure.

    Everyday companies are inventing new configurations of service architectures, which prescribe and motivate information system design. Information system architectures are intrinsically complex engineering products that can be defined on different levels of abstrac-tion and represented by using various dimensions. Designers are building them fragment by fragment but when the design is complete, then typically the business and technical compo-nents do not fit each other. The attempt to maintain the relevance of each specification frag-ment across disparate dimensions is very expensive and time consuming. The notion of service is not used explicitly in traditional information system engineering methods, which cover just a part of required modelling notations that are currently emerging under the service - oriented analysis and design approaches. The most fascinating idea about the service concept is that it applies equally well to organizational as well as technical components, which can be viewed as service requestors and service providers. The primary goal of service oriented architecture is to align the business process models with the information system design in order to make both organizational and technical system parts more effective. One of the reasons why the traditional methods do not provide effective support for engineering of information systems is that service architectures are difficult to visualize and comprehend for business experts who determine the organizational strategies. The main goal of this paper is to present a new ser-vice-oriented foundation and the associated analysis patterns for computation neutral informa-tion system modelling.     Identification of discontinuities, separation of concerns and dealing with the evolutionary changes of requirements is difficult in conceptual modeling. Another restriction is that a limited human mind allows focusing on one particular requirement at a time in isolation. One fundamental problem is that all conventional conceptual modeling techniques are dealing with collections of loosely linked meta-models, which are defined by the different types of diagrams. Typically, system development methods project interactive, behavioral and structural aspects of information systems’ conceptual representations into disparate views. Therefore, the semantic integrity of various architecture dimensions is difficult to achieve. The difficulties are stemming from the paradigmatic mismatch between static and dynamic constructs. The advantage of the conceptual modeling approach presented in this paper is flexibility in dealing with the evolutionary changes of requirements. Visualization of interplay among structural, interactive and behavioral aspects helps to separate different concerns and to identify discontinuities of conceptual representations. It is demonstrated by case study examples that sequential, underlying, enclosing, overriding and overlaying interaction loops between actors provide the foundation for the composition of complex scenarios, which span across organizational and technical system boundaries. The presented semantic integration and system decomposition principles target both business process modeling experts and information system designers, because they are essential for introducing evolutionary changes and for managing complexity of information system conceptualizations.

    This chapter presents a pragmatic-driven approach for service-oriented information system analysis and design. Its uniqueness is exploiting a design foundation for graphical description of the semantic and pragmatic aspects of business processes that is based on the service oriented principles. Services are viewed as dynamic subsystems. Their outputs depend not only inputs, but on a service state as well. A precondition state and input flow is sufficient for determining a service output flow and a post-condition state. Intentions of various business process experts are represented in terms of a set of pragmatic dependencies, which are driving the overall system engineering process. It is demonstrated how the pragmatic aspects are linked to the conceptual representations, which define the semantics of business design. In contrast to the traditional system development methodologies, the main difference of the service-oriented approach is that it integrates the static and dynamic aspects into one type of diagram. Computation independent models of semantic fragments are represented by graphical specifications of interactions between service providers and service consumers. Semantic integrity control between the static and dynamic dependencies of business processes is a one of the major benefits of service-oriented analysis and design process. It is driven by the pragmatic descriptions, which are defined in terms of goals, problems and opportunities.

    Enterprise Engineering proved to be useful when a generally accepted intentional description of information system is not available. A blueprint of enterprise infrastructure provides a basis for system analysis of the organizational and technical processes. It is sometimes referred as enterprise architecture. The major effort of this paper is the demonstration of how to bridge a gap among various levels (syntactic, semantic and pragmatic) of enterprise engineering. Most information system engineering methodologies are heavily centred on system development issues at the implementation level. Thus, such methodologies are restrictive in a way that a supporting technical system specification can not be motivated or justified in the context of organizational process models. Enterprise models provide a basis for gradual understanding of why and how various technical system components come about. Some undesirable qualities of enterprise engineering are sketched in this paper

    This document demonstrates a possibility for extension of the LYEE methodology by using the Enterprise Modelling approach. The Karlstad University unit undertook the work. The major contribution of this report from the practical point of view is to illustrate by various examples how enterprise modelling approach can contribute in the phase of system requirements engineering in the context of LYEE. The overall investigation is based on examples of a real case study in the area of e-commerce. Most software methodologies are heavily centred on system development issues at the implementation level. Thus, such methodologies are restrictive in a way that a supporting technical system specification can not be motivated or justified in the context of organisational process models. A blueprint of enterprise infrastructure provides a basis for the organisations information technology planning. It is sometimes referred as enterprise architecture. The major theoretical effort of this report is to demonstrate the Lyee software engineering methodology extensions by using the enterprise modelling approach. The main focus is on the issue of the pragmatic, semantic and logical software requirements integration by using the enterprise models.
