A Human Geography Testament2016Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

This publication is to be seen as my testament to human geography with a focus on my research. The publication consists of two parts: two paper presentations and a text that summarizes all my published research results together with a list of my publications.

An explanation of the paper presentations is necessary here. They have been in my desk drawer for a long time but have never been published. Now  when I am finishing my research career I would love to see them in print at last. Let us call them the expression of my last scientific ambition. They are unpolished versions directly from my heart.

The first paper is entitled “Complementary Aspects of Thoughts in Human Geography” and the second paper is entitled “Geographical Identities and Social Change – Some Critical Aspects on Regions as Key Factors for Development”. Both papers represent central concluding ideas from my academic career.

The second part consists of a summary of my research during my academic career. I also relate the text to my publication list at the end of the volume.

Identities and Life Worlds: with Examples from Östmark and Ostmark2009Collection (editor) (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

This report is a collection of various texts on projects related to identities and life worlds. It consists of three papers: one theoretical and two dealing with special geographical study areas.

The terminology ‘Local and Regional Identities’ has been used and is still frequently used by geographers and regional planners, but what is its relevance today? In the first paper both personal experiences and ongoing trends in the world are used in an attempt to theoretically discuss what it refers to, or what it could refer to. The focus is on the term ‘relational’, frequently used by other authors relating to space in different ways. The definition here is delimited to people and identities based on their relations to different regions, since this is mainly humanistic geography. Three different kinds of identities are defined: person identities, region (or landscape or place) identities and relational identities.

The second paper is based on a field trip to a study area in Sweden, Östmark in the province of Värmland. Here life worlds and identities are communicated within the region and between two geographers from different parts of the world (Sweden and India).

The third paper is based on a field trip to ‘Ostmark region’ in Meeker County in the US with a pilot study on identities. This region represents a region with inhabitants with ancestors from Östmark in Sweden. Many people from Östmark migrated to the US, beginning in the 1860s and continuing to the 1920s.

Jannelund, Degerfors och världen: En personlig betraktelse i tid och rum2017 (ed. 150)Book (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

Landscape, the Individual and Society: Change, Meanings and Goals1993Report (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This is the final report of the project "A Changing Natural and Cultural Landscape" (Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences). One of the overarching aims of this project was to develop a theoretical frame of reference for the attitudes one can or should adopt towards changes in the landscape.

The work entailed an attempt to develop a theory on perceptions/meanings of the landscape and a method for testing this theory. This is a research field which has received little attention in Sweden. Even internationally the field has only attracted limited interest, basically in the form of limited studies of details. My research resulted in the generation of a theory based on the idea that the landscape had various types of mental meanings: "pictorial value", "identity value" and "perceptual value with all the senses". A pictorial test was developed to illustrate the various perceptions of the landscape. The test was used on both local residents in the various study areas in Värmland and on groups of students from the university.

Stadsdelen Kronoparken i Karlstad: Samhällsplaneringens vedermödor2016Book (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Boken omfattar nitton artiklar i vilka sammantaget sjutton författare medverkar.
