Karlstads universitets Pedagogiska Tidskrift, ISSN 1653-4743, Vol. 1, no 1, p. 96-107Article in journal (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The consumption of alcohol in Sweden has increased considerably within recent years. Among youths there has been a tendency towards drinking more frequently and increased volumes. Alcohol habits among students on the high schools auto mechanic line has been given a questionnaire to examine their experience of the immediate after effect of alcohol and how et effects their situation in school. It has been proven that participating students are drinking alcohol more frequently than the average among Swedish high school students and girls more often than boys. The general experiences of alcohol after effect are predominantly negative both physically and psychologically, but the students are not concerned of their alcohol habits having an effect on their school work.

Skapar gymnasielärare trygghet för eleverna i klassrummet?: En studie kring lärarens påverkan av trygghet i klassrummet2012Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Portfolio methodology and digital portfolio for pupils are nowadays well known conceptions. These two things, just as one of the computer programmes developed in purpose to be an active digital portfolio for pupils, have an essential part of this study. Portfolio Manager 2, which is the name of the programme, is developed in Sweden, by Swedish pedagogues.

The study has a quantitative disposition, with questionnaires as instrument. A gender and special needs approach was part of the study, which resulted in new pedagogical experiences. The study was made at 2 different Swedish schools, in 5 classes in form 5. The subject was woodworks and textile craft. The teacher questionnaire was shaped in such a manner that it could provide a judgement of the “phenomena” PM2 as a unit, since PM2 also consists from tools of the more administrative kind.

The result of the study corroborates earlier studies, which was that the use of portfolio helps pupils in their learning process. The study also shows that girls in form 5, more than boys in the same age group, understand the connection between learning and portfolio methodology. Further more this examination points out that the software Portfolio Manager 2 is very user-friendly, both for pupils using digital portfolio as well as for teachers as an administrative tool.

The school subject woodworks and textile craft is not the primary object of the study, but is discussed in the text through the “excess information” from the questionnaires. The result regarding the school subject woodworks and textile craft was positive.

Heteronormativitet i svenskämnet för grundskolans senare år: En läromedelsanalys2013Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

My thesisdiscusseshowthe teaching materialPortal svenska 7-9 meets goals in Lgr11 on countering traditional gender roles. In this I want to highlight how heteronormativity designed and regenerated in school in general and the teaching material Portal svenska 7-9 in particular. The compositeobjectiveof this paper isthat, based on myresearchto work out howwe areteachingshould proceedin order tomeet theobjectives ofLgr11relatingto counteracttraditional genderroles.

My study shows that the premise of living up to the goals of Lgr11 not in a clear way, met in the discursive expression in Portal svenska 7-9. The teaching material is too heteronormative contingent and can not handle more than exceptionally challenging the prevailing heteronormativity. However, the teaching material of the quality that can serve as basis for an active educational work. Through a conscious and deliberate standard critical pedagogical work can Portal serve as a starting point to show the weaknesses of both heteronormativity and as a starting point to illustrate the possibilities of an alternative perspective.

Ämnena Bild och Musik ur ett historiskt perspektiv2007Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 points / 15 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This research project is about how the subjects` art and music has been described under the 20th century in the Swedish school until today. The purpose with this research project is to do a text analysis that describes these subjects now and the last century, to illustrate the differences between today and the last century. Hence the size of this subject I have chosen some random samples out of the 20th century until today. I started to take these random samples from the first lyric I found about these subjects, and continued with these random samples in other lyrics from the middle of the 20th century until the year 2006. I just took these random samples from what I had found because I did not found some lyrics from earlier period of the 20th century. After a few weeks of material researching I started to write down my text analysis.

The result of the research project when it comes to the earlier parts of the 20th century art and music subjects´ was that they where used to raise up the students and teach them how to behave in working life. It was the adults who choose what was best for the students and it was about preparation for the life as an adult. Through art the students should learn how to draw of a tool from different works of that epoch and the music was about how to learn a psalm or a song by heart that could be about how one should behave oneself.

The results of my research project when it comes to today is that the differences between yesterdays school and today’s that today these subjects are more independent fore the students then before. On the basis of the conditions of the students they can use these subjects both as a way to express them self in other subjects then art and music, and it is also another way to take some learning about there own culture like others cultures. It is the imagination of the students that should characterize the subjects` art and music. The school wants through these subjects` that the students shall get a better self – confidence about them self and that the students shall take other cultures closer to them and there way of seeing at these subjects.

    Abstract [en]

This essay is about literature instruction in the last three years of Sweden’s compulsory school from one teacher’s and six of his pupils’ perspective. The research is analysed from a socio-cultural perspective on learning and literature reception.

The empiric material is based on interviews with the teacher and six of his students.

The research shows that there is a difference between what the pupils read on their spare time and what they read during Swedish instruction. It also shows that the pupils wants literature full of action where descriptions of people and the setting don’t slow down the reading experience.

The teacher is successful in finding literature the pupils appreciate but sees the value of literature on another level – in the processing of the reading experience. He gives his pupils the task to discuss their views on the text’s meaning based on their specific expe-rience. The instruction is thereby partly in co-ordnance with ideals put forward by literature instruction theorists Louise M. Rosenblatt and Judith A. Langer. The dialogic and socio-cultural perspective on learning which Lev S. Vygotskij proclaims is also an inspiration for the teacher.

Åtgärdsprogram i nya skollagen: Några lärares och rektorers erfarenheter, förväntningar och tankar2012Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this thesis is to find out if principals and teachers have experience, expectations and thoughts about the differences that the new Education Act means in relation to the old one about action programme. Through qualitative interviews with two principals and four teachers, I have tried to answer my research questions that I have made based on the purpose. The questions are: How do the interviewees describe the routines about action programme?  Has, according to the interviewees, the routines been changed with the new Education Act? How do teachers and principals experience the differences between the old and new Education Act regarding the action programmes?

The results of my survey shows that the process of action programme is different at different schools and that it has been adapted to the new Education Act in varying degrees. These results give differences in the experiences of the new directives. Differences between principals and teachers also become visible, which may be due to that the interviewed principals seem to know more about what’s included in the new Education Act than the interviewed teachers. Conclusions to be made from the survey is for example that it is important for schools to review their routines regarding action programme, even if they already have been developed to be similar to the new directives. This is important to ensure that the process is done correctly. It is also important to ensure that all staff understands the new directive and its purpose.

Key words: Action programme, the new Education Act, principal, teacher, teacher for special needs education, special support.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose was to find out how South African preschool teachers regard play and its relationship to learning, development and influence in play. What teachers think about children’s learning and development, and if children have any influence in their preschool play, according to the preschool teachers. The empirical material consists of interviews with six South African preschool teachers. The analysis has been conducted according to a thematic content of analysis focusing two themes; play, learning and development as one theme and children’s influence on their play as a second theme. The preschool teachers considered that play is beneficial for children in their learning and development. Play is about everything in children’s life; through play children discover the world, learn and develop in a general sense. Play also contributes to children’s learning about interaction with others.A conclusion from the study is that play is considered as an essential part in children’s lives, both in literature and in the interviews. The result shows that the preschool teachers wanted what is best for the children. As the Convention on the rights of the Child states about play: it’s about survival and development, which the teachers considered was a priority.

Särskilt stöd i förskolan: En studie om verksamma pedagogers syn på särskilt stöd2012Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

This study aims to increase the knowledge of what opinions freelancing and teaching musicians within the improvised music genres have on the creation of a personal expression and how they consider the subject can be handled in music education. The background chapter provides an overview of the concept of personal expression, followed by a presentation of previous research in the field. The next chapter describes socio-cultural perspective, serving as a theoretical basis.

The data material consists of four qualitative interviews with freelance improvisers with great educational experience. The result chapter presents the analysis of the musician's view of how a personal expression can be created and how they as teachers consider teaching in this area. The chapter includes how a personal expression is about to affirm ones taste and desire and that confidence, skill and inspiration are aspects to take into consideration. The concluding discussion chapter highlights aspects from the study's result chapter in relation to the socio-cultural perspective on learning and to previous research. Here the themes are among others the collective memory, musical language, musician's tools and the role and function of the school.

    Abstract [sv]

Teaching materials and students with mental retardation2008Conference paper (Other (popular science, discussion, etc.))
    Abstract [en]

Teaching materials and students with mental retardation

From a socio-cultural perspective, teaching materials can be regarded as mediating tools for transferring culturally based knowledge, norms, values and traditions. While literature on teaching materials in general is substantial, few investigations have been conducted on teaching materials for students with mental retardation.

In this paper I will present parts of an ongoing project in which this issue is focused. The study includes about twenty students in two training school classes and one class for students with mild mental retardation, covering the grades 7 10 in the compulsory school.

Teaching materials in this study are defined as cultural tools used in education and serving a pedagogical function in programs for students with mental retardation (särskolan). My preliminary findings indicate predominance for everyday skills in teaching material activities. Reading or mathematical development in teaching material activities are of low priority. The activities often imply dilemmas the teacher have to master.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

utvärderat i grupp.

    Abstract [en]

The study deals with the causes of creative resistance and flow. My purpose is to examine underlying causes of creating in the field of songwriter / artists. How does one deal with resistance, and is there a method to maintain a creative flow?

I have interviewed six people who are active as songwriters and artists, as well as consulting relevant texts. During the study, I have concluded that everyone in one way or another has experienced "writer's cramp", but for different reasons. What appears to be common, is that everyone exhibits a need of self-chosen solitude to attain a creative flow.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to examine how sketching and documentation can be integrated into the hairdressing programme. Besides this, the study explores whether developing creativity by means of sketching can bridge learning and understanding difficulties when working with practical items. A qualitative study based on interviews was carried out. Two teachers and four students participated in the study answering questions about creating with creativity, sketching and documentation and their importance for learning and overall in hairdressing education. In an educational trial set up by myself, the students developed creative hairstyles, from their own ideas. Sketching was used by the students to elaborate thoughts and ideas. Documentation was consciously used so that the students could have a retrospective look at their work and reflect over methods and results later on. In my literature study there are illustrative examples of how learning takes place through interaction with other people. The result of interviews, educational trial and exposition of literature shows that learning and understanding difficulties often can be bridged by means of sketching and documentation of creative work.

De sobremesa 1887-1896: José Asunción Silva:El poeta novelista2004Doctoral thesis, monograph (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

José Asunción Silva is a Colombian poet most known for having renewed the metrics in Spanish poetry during the 19th century. José Asunción Silva's only novel, De sobremesa 1887-1896 [After dinner, 1887-1896] written in 1896 is a significant and representative modernist novel in the tradition of Latin-American modernismo.Silvas novel has been considered as a structureless, narratively disordered and chaotic text by many literary critics since its first publication in 1925. The text presents a great deal of fragmentation on the surface level: the story is presented by means of temporal discontinuity and multiple narrative voices and its thematic richness seems to be endless. The characters reveal multiple perspectives and a plurality of discourses. This dissertation determines and analyzes the formal and thematic aspects of the text that underlie its apparently disordered structure. The analysis focuses on the study of the referentiality of the text and some of its narrative components. It examines how the different fragments of the story, which are apparently neither logically nor thematically ordered on the surface level, are associated and integrated in the novel as a whole.Silva as a novelist makes use of some of the conventions of poetry and the techniques he applied to his poems. Contrast, association, assimilation and parallelisms are ways of creating new organizational forms of expressions in his prose work. The protagonist of De sobremesa, himself a poet, also plays the role of author, narrator, narratee and reader of his own prose work, his personal diary. This is a very particular feature in the context of Latin-American modernist novels written between 1882- 1902. The study analyzes the different roles of the character in the story to prove that the sense of unity is built by centring the text technically and thematically on the protagonist in its different roles. Silva makes the protagonist the point of convergence of the whole text. This dissertation suggests that there is an organized structure underlying the apparent disorder and incoherence of the text. The basis for Silvas text is diversity and the different where even the smallest parts prove to correspond with a bigger one. For a text of the 19th century, this is an innovative and experimental way of writing that seeks to create unity out of disorder and fragmentation.

Dyslexi hos förskolebarn: Finns det?2008Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 points / 15 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Minoritetsspråkliga elevers undervisning: En jämförelse mellan svenska och norska styrdokument2010Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Many students in the Swedish and Norwegian compulsory school do not have qualification to search for further education. There is a large part of those pupils who have a different native language than the country’s majority language. These students’ possibilities to a fair and equal education is regulated in national laws and regulations of school activity, the so-called governing documents.

The purpose of this study is to compare Norwegian and Swedish governing documents regarding education for pupils with another native language. The comparison also applies to the requirements that each country has for the students who are looking to the Swedish upper secondary school, and its counterpart in Norway, “den videregående skolen”.

It is possible to see some similarities in the design of the governing documents and the school as an institution. However, there are some differences in the content of teaching and the document that governs this. The Norwegian school and Norwegian governing documents put more focus on the Norwegian language, while the Swedish school system and Swedish governing documents have a more generous attitude towards the native language.

    Abstract [en]

    Abstract

The purpose for this essay has been to illuminate some teachers opinions of integration of students with Aspergers syndrom in the compulsory school, then compare it with the statue documents and see similarities and differences.

The studie has been of a quality character, based on quality intervjues to get the teachers understanding at a deeper level. The questions in the intervju are based on open questions with purpose not to control the person during the intervju.

The most obvious result which was that it appered two perspective of integration of students with Aspergers syndrom. One in the short run and one in the long run.

In the long run it was the integration of the individual into the society and in the short run integration in school.

For the perspective in the long run, the opinions from the teachers in compulsory school is good corresponding to the statue documents, that the integration is necessary for our democratic and human values that our sociaty are based on.

In the short run, during the years when the students are in school, it came out great difficulties to integrate children with Aspergers syndrom. To proceed an integration that works out for the students, the teachers took site from the individual and not from the society. If we do not look at integration from an individual base we are probably not going to succeed to integrate in society.

Searchwords: Aspergers syndrom, neuropsychiatric funktional disorders, integration, inclusion, segregation.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of my study is to contribute knowledge about how class teachers can work with students who are in mathematics difficulties. The question at issues I have is: Which methods can class teachers in grades 1-3 use to help students with mathematics difficulties? and Which obstacles and opportunities are there in this work? To get answers to my questions, I have read relevant literature and interviewed 3 class teachers in central Sweden. Through my interview I learned that education should include and build on concrete materials and methods. I also got to know that time is the biggest obstacle to helping students with mathematics difficulties.
