    Technology-enhanced speech and language relearning for stroke patients: defining requirements for a software application development2020Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    Speech and language relearning are challenging for stroke survivors as well as for medical caregiv-ers. After a stroke, a patient’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen is decreased to different degrees, which results in a compromised independent life and a decreased quality of life for the patient. Tech-nology enhances systems can play a vital role in this context. However, the available software are not specifically built for after the stroke patient’s needs. This paper is therefore aimed to gather require-ments for designing a tailor-made speech relearning software application for stroke survivors. A de-sign science approach was adopted, where different stakeholders such as medical caregivers and in-formation technology consultants were involved in the process. The well-informed and experienced participants in their fields highlighted some important requirements such as different types of inter-face for a patient than speech therapist with extra management functionality for speech therapists so that they can adjust the relearning exercises according to the patient’s needs. Software requirements vary from patient to patient where the intensity of speech and language impairments, general medical condition of the patient, age, prior experience, and knowledge about the information of the patient and social setup of the patient plays an important role. Since stroke is most common in adults and adults learn differently than children, adult learning theory might help understand the patients’ needs. There-fore, adult learning principles were involved in the requirement analysis process. The established re-quirements will be used for the development of speech and language relearning software.

    Digitala hälsotjänster har de senaste åren ökat i popularitet bland svenska medborgare. Dessa tjänster kan användas som komplement till traditionella fysiska vårdcentraler för att bli undersökt av en läkare, sjuksköterska med flera. Under de första månaderna under Covid-19 pandemin kan digitala hälsotjänster ha blivit ännu mer populära på grund av att de erbjuder ett kontaktlöst (smittofritt) sätt att få medicinska råd. Den här studien, genomförd maj 2020, undersöker hur aktiva svenska medborgare är i användning av digitala hälsotjänster för vård via nätet och deras inställning samt vad som påverkar deras inställning. För att ta reda på detta användes en enkät för att samla in empiri. 166 svar samlades in. Studiens resultat framhäver att ungdomar är mycket mer aktiva användare av digitala hälsotjänster för vård än äldre. Resultatet visar även att medborgare som testat digitalahälsotjänster för vård har en mer positiv inställning till digitala hälsotjänster än medborgare som inte testat digitala hälsotjänster. Detta kan tolkas som att de som har en positiv inställning har det rent generellt gentemot digitalisering av vård, eller som att användares inställning påverkas positivt (i flesta fall) redan efter ett besök. De faktorer som hade störst betydelse för medborgarnas inställning till digitala hälsotjänster för vård var lättillgänglighet, säkerhet och ekonomiska aspekter. En stor andel av respondenterna som inte testat digitala hälsotjänster hade önskat rekommendationer om hälsotjänster från staten eller en statlig hälsotjänst för att de skulle testa tjänsterna.

    Abstract [en]

    Applying for a building permit can be perceived as a complicated process for private individuals who are not familiar with building permit applications. Therefore, this study has the goal of reducing the proportion of incomplete applications through conducting some surveys to find innovative solutions that can be implemented. We also focus on the shortcomings in the first stage of the building permit process, as well as how they can be remedied by e.g., identifying problems and then improving each part. The study goes into detail on different communication approaches for each municipality. We also investigate whether the information provided by municipalities is easily accessible to applicants. In achieving the above stated goals, a quantitative research method where scientific articles, literature studies and questionnaires were used. In addition to this, qualitative research methods were included through team interviews, primarily with different building permit managers and building permit administrators for each municipality. The results consist of answered questionnaires that were distributed to both building permit applicants and building permit administrators in each municipality who have collaborated with them. The partners in the report have been Karlstad, Eskilstuna and Surahammar municipality. The responses have been formulated in a way to be able to present data in various figures such as diagrams and tables, which in turn give a clear picture of most of the ambiguities that arise in the application. Based on the results of the work, it has turned out that it was most problematic for building permit applicants regarding the control plan. It was perceived as the most difficult document to get hold of and send complete. A measure for this is to give applicants the opportunity to receive a similar complete building permit application that they can download from the municipal website, which can be used as a comparison. A change in the law or clarification from the National Board of Housing, Building and Planning's website is also a solution as all three municipalities have obtained exact information and needed to make additions with information, descriptions, and copies. Clarification of sample drawings and the website is also a solution to make it easier for applicants by making the content easier to understand. A text on the website stating that the waiting time will be shorter with a correct building permit application was also a solution and to improve communication between administrators and applicants so that it becomes more accessible to be reached via e-mail, telephone, and even physical meetings with questions. Another solution that emerged from the result was that a column with the administrator's contact information to get direct contact and thus improve the communication between the applicant and the administrator regarding ambiguities and questions.

    Mindre företag och organisationer har uttryckt ovilja att använda molntjänster på grund av

    otydliga säkerhetsvillkor. Skälet är att de Service Level Agreements (SLA) som reglerar

    ansvaret för säkerheten i Molnet, bland annat vad gäller datalagring och skydd av

    personuppgifter, upplevs vara otydliga. Syftet med denna studie var därför att undersöka vad

    användare av molntjänster anser om de säkerhetsramverk och säkerhetsmått som används i

    SLA-kontrakt för molntjänster. Genom semistrukturerade intervjuer av fyra personer och

    analys av intervjuerna visade resultatet att användarna ansåg att de säkerhetsramverk som

    användes i SLA-kontrakt för molnbaserade tjänster var för otydliga genom att vara alltför

    generella och inte tillräckligt relevanta för den egna verksamheten. Användarna ansåg att de

    säkerhetsmått som tillämpades i SLA-kontrakten skulle kunna vara tydligare genom att vara

    mer detaljerade och relevanta för den egna verksamheten. Slutsatsen blev därför att etablerade

    säkerhetsramverk som NIST, ISO och COBIT inte tillmötesgick användarnas behov av

    specifika och relevanta säkerhetsramverk och säkerhetsmått i SLA. En lösning skulle därför

    vara att använda mjukvara för att automatiskt generera SLA-kontrakt utifrån tydligare samt

    mer specifika och relevanta säkerhetsmått. En sådan lösning skulle öka användarnas upplevelse

    av säkerhet genom SLA och öka deras användning av molntjänster.

    Det har blivit allt mer intressant för företag att investera i miljön. I bilindustrin strävar man efter att få så bränslesnåla fordon som möjligt och man har där kommit långt. Inom varvindustrin har man inte kommit lika långt.

    Elektronik-mekanik företaget Q-TAGG R&D har under en längre tid utvecklat ett system till fartyg som avser minska bränslekonsumtionen för fartyg. Samtidigt har det blivit allt mer populärt med s.k. surfplattor och dessa ger en ny möjlighet inom grafiska gränssnitt. Detta projekt handlar om att skapa ett grafiskt användargränssnitt till det ovan nämnda systemet.

    Projektet skulle vare en prototyp på ett tänkbart gränssnitt som ska låta användaren kommunicera med systemet och hämta information och presentera detta.

     

    Resultatet av detta projekt blev ett användargränssnitt som låter användaren se aktuell bränsleförbrukning och hastighet på fartyget som använder systemet. Användare kan också ställa in önskad hastighet och förbrukning. En graf presenterar hur hastigheten och förbrukningen har sett ut den senaste tiden. Det går att se fartygets rullning, nigning och vridning samt varje motors varvtal.

    In this essay I analyze the ways in which gender and space are shaped and made sense of through digital gameplay. Specifically in the turn based strategy game XCOM: Enemy Within for the MacBook Air with a computer mouse as the primary input device. Using a mixed methods approach consisting of gameplay sessions of XCOM and qualitative interviews with two players regarding their gameplay I argue that earlier research on space within game studies has overlooked the ways in which the shaping of space in gameplay is also gendered. Developing a theoretical framework influenced by gender studies, critical theory, affect theory, assemblage theories of space, and game theory, I argue for how the shaping of space and gender in game-play is interdependent. This in that the shaping of space and gender in digital gameplay is in constant relation and tension with societal norms and the affective capacities of bodies and digital games. In conclusion, I reflect on the possibilities to develop more empirical research based on the the theoretical framework explored in the essay.

    This Bachelor’s Thesis documents the process and result of an examining product development project for the Innovation and design programme at Karlstad’s University.

    A concept for a maintenance tool designed for a manual chainsaw has been developed. By applying the phases applied for the product design process described by Johannsson (2013), and by utilizing the knowledge from a comprehensive pre-study, a first concept was established. With a reiterative design process this concept has been developed and made into a first prototype that have been tested, evaluated and adjusted accordingly.

    The construction as described in chapter 2.6- Detail construction is a handheld tool with file gauges specially designed for the manual chainsaw. By using a groove for the chain at the top of the tool, it can be fixed and sharpened without any additional equipment.  A prototype was made by virtual prototyping and constructed by 3D-printing.

    Project should proceed by implementing the changes in the prototype that was observed during testing and then evaluate that result before a manufacturing adoption.

    Abstract [en]

    A method to simulate exterior bus sound with the help of ray tracing has been tested and evaluated. To do this a model of a bus has been built up using CAD software. Dominant noise sources in the bus and material coefficients for the materials included in the bus have been researched. The bus has been imported into the simulation program Odeon where a number of simulations have been performed. Different pass-by simulations have been performed and compared with physical measurements. Different degrees of encapsulation of the engine compartment have been simulated. A grid response has been formulated to optimize the positioning of the absorbers. A calculation error has been found in release 10.13 of the Odeon Software which led to a comparison between Odeon 10.13 and a demonstration version of Odeon 12.

    The results show that the simulation method in its current state performs best when no sound transmission is taken into account. This requires that there are openings in the bus as problems will arise if the bus is simulated with too high a level of encapsulation. Theoretically, no rays would in this case be able to reach any receiver outside the engine compartment. The reason that the transmission loss cannot be taken into account depends on the errors found in Odeon 10.13. The software incorrectly overestimates the sound transmission and transmits rays even in cases where an area is defined to not transmit any rays at all, something that Odeon 12 calculates correctly. Until this is resolved, the simulation method can be used to estimate the energy distribution between the octave bands, the optimal placement of absorbers and to some extent the overall sound level of the bus.

    Sammanfattning

    Monteringshallen hos Metso Paper Karlstad är beroende av många utomstående funktioner och processer. De som jobbar med montering och utcheckning måste koordinera sina arbeten med tillverkningen, underleverantörer, inköp, konstruktion och skeppning.

    Alla är medvetna om att det finns problem i monteringshallen och att det måste det göras något för att komma till rätta med dem. Men vilka orsakerna är till problemen finns det olika uppfattningar om. En del upplever det också som att problemen återkommer gång på gång. Få försök har gjorts för att på metodiskt sätt få en gemensam syn på problematiken eller ta fram fakta som kan ligga till grund för beslut om förbättringsområden. Dessutom finns en attityd om att kvalitetsarbete mest tar tid. Problemen anses inte härröra från montaget utan de får helt enkelt finna sig att vara de som städar upp efter andra.

    Syftet med detta examensarbete har varit att svara på frågeställningar om problemens orsaker, dess kostnadsstorlekar och vilka åtgärder som kan vara lämpliga för att minska kvalitetsbristkostnaderna i monteringshallen. Det övergripande målet har varit monteringshallens utveckling av kvalitetsarbetet. Rapporten är baserad på de anställdas erfarenheter som framkommit vid intervjuer. Teorin är vald med fokus på de olika delar som krävs för långsiktigt och kontinuerligt kvalitetsarbete.

    Intervjuerna visar att medvetenheten om sin egen del i problem och problemlösning är låg. De betraktar sig själva som om de inte har del i problemen. Detta är mindre bra eftersom det finns många beroenden till andra funktioner. Dessutom behandlas det många varianter av maskiner vilket än mer ökar behovet av väl fungerande processer. Därför är den nuvarande attityden och kvalitetstänkandet ett stort hinder mot nödvändigt förbättringsarbete. Orsakerna till omarbetningar lagras inte vilket försvårar möjligheterna att på ett effektivt sätt finna lösningar på problemen.

    Rapportens resultat är en genomgång av de nödvändiga byggstenar som krävs för att långsiktigt kunna bedriva framgångsrikt kvalitetsarbete. Det rekommenderas att personer med chefsbefattning tar in de synpunkter som har påpekats och gör en prioritering av det som behöver åtgärdas. Nedanför listas förslag på åtgärder för ett förbättrat kvalitetsarbete i monteringshallen.

    1. Tillsätt en resurs som jobbar aktivt med förbättrings- och kvalitetsfrågor (förbättringssamordnare/ledare).

    2. Börja med pilotgrupp/avdelning som får utbildning i kvalitetsmetoder och verktyg parallellt med förbättringsarbetet.

    3. Informera och utbilda personalen i grunderna inom kvalitet för att få ett gemensamt språk

    4. Våga genomföra förändringar.

    5. Börja med att åtgärda saker som ger tydliga förbättringar med hjälp av 5S

    6. Förbättra Baan-systemet så att det går att spara felorsaker

    7. Kartläggning och förbättring av processerna

    Transaktioner på nätet har ökat drastiskt och till följd av detta har en stor efterfrågan inommikrotransaktioner för företag och organisationer uppkommit. Forskning inom detta områdehar visat att mikrotransaktioner kan effektivisera allt i vardagen, så som hur informationöverförs och att den kan utnyttjas i marknaden för att skapa fler affärsmöjligheter. Dennauppsats undersöker mikrotransaktioners egenskaper, funktioner och diskuterar deraseventuella användning i nutida transaktionssystem. Undersökningen tar upp varför företag villha användning av transaktionssystemet och vilka möjligheter som kan uppstå med tekniken.För att finna en allmän förståelse om tekniken genomfördes litteraturgenomgång som bas ochen kvalitativ intervjuundersökning hos företag som överväger att använda tekniken ochföretag som utvecklar plattformar för tekniken. Med intervjuerna undersöktes om det varmöjligt att använda sig av mikrotransaktioner och hur dagens utveckling ser ut.Slutsatserna av undersökningen blev att mikrotransaktioner går att användas i små mängder,men tekniken behöver bli mer utvecklad för att företag och organisationer skall kunnaacceptera tekniken.

    Abstract [en]

    This study is a subjective image analysis of children books where the purpose of the study was to investigate how gender aspects are expressed in children books with the focus on content regarding technology. The study is aimed at educators who are active in preschool activities. The study is based on four Alfons Åberg-books and a newer book focusing on digital technology called Hej Ruby. The images have been analyzed based on Falk's analysis framework where the images are divided into four categories - denotative level, internal context, external context and connotative level.

    The study has found that the technology in children's books follows certain traditional gender patterns. For example, the technology in the kitchen, most often associated with women is forgotten, it does not show as well as the typical male technology, as construction where technology often appears as a project created by the man.

    Denna rapport behandlar ett examensarbete för högskoleingenjörsprogrammet inom innovationsteknik och design vid Karlstad universitet. Arbetet är genomfört av Rasmus Baudtler, handledare för projektet var Lennart Wihk och examinator professor Leo De Vin.

    Projektet är utfört på uppdrag av Zoundindustries, Stockholm. Utvecklare av moderna ljudprodukter. Uppdraget har fokuserats mot att hitta en alternativ lösning för laddning till den trådlösa hörluren Plattan ADV Wireless från varumärket Urbanears. Det huvudsakliga målet var att utveckla en lösning utifrån designmetodik baserad på användarstudier och ingenjörsteknik med syfte i att förenkla laddningsscenariot för användaren och öka tillgängligheten för laddning.

    Projektet har utförts enligt den industriella produktutvecklingsprocessen med fokus inom designprocessen. Arbetet startade i en omfattande förstudie innehållande en produktutvärdering, en teknikstudie samt användarstudier genom designmetodik. Detta ledde till i en projektinriktning mot induktiv laddning.

    Med kunskap inom användarens önskemål och teknikens krav sammanställdes en kravspecifikation med en uppdaterad problemformulering. Genom konceptsframtagningsmetoder togs ett flertal koncept fram utifrån kravspecifikationen. Koncepten behandlades sedan genom olika typer av matriser i ett konceptval som resulterade i ett slutgiltigt konceptval.

    Det slutgiltiga valet var en portabel laddningsplatta med inbyggt batteri. Konceptet ansågs förenkla laddningsscenariot och öka tillgängligheten för användaren. Utvecklingsarbetet fortgick genom fastställande av gränssnitt mellan laddare och hörlur, användarscenarion, modell- och prototypbygge. Det slutgiltiga konceptet presenterades i form av 3D-renderingar och uppvisning av prototyperna vid en utställning vid Karlstads universitet. Genom utvecklingsarbetet uppfylldes de krav som ställts på produkten och en möjlig implementering av tekniken i nuvarande produkt kunde bekräftas. Därför anses projektet stå till svar för den problemformulering som ställts upp i projektet.

    För vidare utveckling av konceptet anses följande områden behöva kompletteras eller undersökas: teknikstudie genom expertis, anpassningsarbete av kretskort, utvärdering av produktens anslutningar samt utvärdering av produktens batteri.

    I Sverige pågår ett ständigt arbete med att öka trafiksäkerheten. Sverige har som mål att ha noll dödsolyckor i trafiken, den så kallade nollvisionen. Det är känt att oskyddade trafikanter utsätts för större risker i trafiken och för att uppnå visionen behöver säkerheten för oskyddade trafikanter ökas. Det är i dagsläget svårt att bedöma effekterna av säkerhetsåtgärder som genomförs. För att få fram bättre lösningar i trafiksäkerheten och dra slutsatser om de åtgärder som redan görs behövs insikt om oskyddade trafikanters resmönster.

    Det här arbetet syftade till att undersöka vilka metoder för uppskattning av oskyddade trafikanters resmönster som finns tillgängliga och kan användas i svenska städer genom att utföra en litteraturstudie. Litteraturstudien utfördes på engelska och svenska texter med sökmotorerna Google Scholar, Web of Science och Scopus.

    Litteraturgranskningen visade att de vanligaste metoderna som används i Sverige är flödesmätningar och resvaneundersökningar. Internationellt har flera studier utförts med flera andra metoder som kan vara intressanta även för Sverige. Främst bland dem är analyser på data från lånecyklar och GPS-data från crowdsourcing med mobilapplikationer.

    Slutsatsen som dras från studien är att ingen metod är tillräckligt utvecklad så att den redan idag kan appliceras i svenska städer utan modifikationer. Crowdsourcing med appar som nyttjar mobilens GPS ger mycket bra data att utföra analyser på men ett problem som återfinns i alla studier med crowdsourcing är mängden användare eller användargruppens homogenitet.

    The purpose of this study is to, from a qualitative point of view, examinte some young children’s understanding of what knowledge of a flashlight as a simple technical system, children of 1,5-2 years can absorb. The study is qualitative and has been conducted with participatory observations where children are given the opportunity to investigate a flashlight and its various components: lamp, power switch, batteries and cap.

    The result shows that the children's ability to acquire knowledge of the flashlight subcomponents function is very extensive. The study involved a total of six children aged 1,5-2 years. Through an educational activity, the children were introduced to a flashlight and after three days an observation was conducted where the children were allowed to investigate and explore some of the flashlight subcomponents. The result is based on the observation. After the observation, the majority of the children who participated had developed knowledge of the flashlight subcomponents function and an understanding that the batteries must be in the flashlight, the cap must be on and the children need to press the power switch to cause the flashlight to lit.

    Abstract [en]

    In order to achieve a more efficient community-building process, access to digital property boundaries is required. Lantmäteriet's digital register map, which shows the whole of Sweden's real estate classification, has been based on preposition maps, digitized maps and orthophotos. Due to the different construction methods, the map has a very varying quality. Lantmäteriet has been commissioned by the government to review how improvements in the map can be made in terms of location accuracy.

    The purpose of the thesis was to investigate what is needed to correct and improve the quality of the directory map in an area like Dingelvik, Västra götaland county. Parts of the area in Dingelvik were selected for reconnaissance and field work. Rediscovered border points were measured with NRTK and in some cases with RUFRIS, always measured repeatedly for control.

    With available coordinates in local coordinate systems, transformation could be performed with passpoints in both systems. Border points that was considered displaced were excluded in the transformation relationship and was given coordinates by the transformed points instead of the measured. Some points couldn’t be measured or transformed. A few of them could be constructed by measurements from two adjacent points available in cadaster register.

    Approximately 60% of the property's border points received an increased quality. The points average displacement was 6 meters towards the coordinates in the cadastral directory map.

    The aim with this study is to increase the knowledge of legal guardians' perceptions and expectations of children's use of digital tools at preschool and at home. This was done through semi-structured interviews with seven guardians from a rural municipality in central Sweden. The study was based on a phenomenographic perspective and analysis model. The results show that guardians' have a positive attitude towards digital tools while also valuing a variation between digital and analogue tools in preschool teaching. They emphasize that the children need to gain knowledge about the use of and with digital tools. They believe that adults cannot protect children from all the risks that exist with digital use, but that children can be given conditions that can increase their safety. For example, a critical approach. The guardians believe that this can be offered to the children in preschool with the help of digital tools and competent pedagogues. The guardians believe that because the children are growing up in a digitalized society, they need to be given the opportunity to develop the digital skills needed to cope with everyday life.

    Idea evaluation is used to identify and select ideas for development as future innovations. However, approaching idea evaluation as a decision gate can limit the role of the person evaluating ideas, create fixation bias, and underutilise the person’s creative potential. Although studies show that during evaluation experts are able to engage in design activities, it is still not clear how they design and develop ideas. The aim of this study was to understand how experts develop ideas during evaluation. Using the think-aloud technique, we identify different ways in which experts develop ideas. Specifically, we show how experts transform initial idea concepts using iterative steps of elaboration and transformation of different idea components. Then, relying on concept-knowledge theory (C-K theory), we identify six types of reasoning that the experts use during idea evaluation. This helps us to distinguish between three different roles that experts can move between during evaluation: gatekeeper, designer managing fixation, and designer managing defixation. These findings suggest that there is value in viewing idea evaluation as a design process because it allows us to identify and leverage the experts’ knowledge and creativity to a fuller extent.

    Abstract

    Two digital elevation models (DEM:s) covering the city Karlstad have been compared. One of them is local and was ordered by and delivered to the municipality, whereas the other one is part of Lantmäteriet’s (Swedish National Land Survey) new national elevation model. Both are rasters with a grid size of two meters. The DEM:s are based on two different airborne la-ser scans of the area. After the laser scans, the elevation point clouds have gone through the processes of georeferencing, point filtering, and interpolation. The objective of the study was to investigate if the cell values of one DEM differ from the corresponding cell values of the other DEM, how these deviations vary geographically, and if there is a connection between the type of terrain and the size of the deviations. Another aim has been to study what the dif-ferences in cell values mean for the prediction of flooding. An important reason why highly accurate elevation models have been developed is the need to predict which areas are likely to be flooded, and which consequences a flooding is likely to have. Here, the number of affected persons and buildings, the length of the affected parts of roads, and the size of the affected built-up and non-built-up areas are calculated for both of the DEM:s, and for two different water levels.

    The study shows that the mean difference between the cell values of the two DEM:s is within a range of a few centimeters, with a RMS (standard deviation) of a couple of decimeters. This corresponds to earlier comparisons between overlapping elevations models made by Lantmäteriet. Within the urban area, it has not been possible to find differences that are due to varying terrain types. When cells containing buildings are included in the analysis, many larger deviations are found, due to failings in the process of point classing. This shows that the DEM:s have some problems with reliability. The DEM:s also differ a bit concerning the number of flooded objects. The number of affected persons according to the national DEM is for example 95, 5 % of the number given by the local DEM, for one of the water levels stu-died.

    This thesis purpose is to verify Ramböll acoustics method of generating auralisations (simulation of sound environments and in this case the simulation of traffic noise in three different areas in Stockholm). The method is based on traffic noise calculations with the calculation standard Nord2000 where sound levels that are obtained are applied to audio files with traffic similar content. Results have been obtained through measurements, calculations and comparisons at selected points in the three different areas where traffic noise has been developed. The audio files with traffic noise fits relatively good with reality, which can be seen as a ground that Ramböll acoustics method works.

    The aim of the study is to increase knowledge about childrens ability in different ages to use Green Screen. The study examines children's ability to take a critical approach during an activity where the digital learning tool Green Screen is used. Our experiences of preschools' use of Green Screen differ and therefore we wanted to investigate the area. We conducted a participant observation that was filmed in two activities with Green Screen, one with two-year-olds and one with four-year-olds. The study was conducted at a preschool in a medium-sized municipality in Sweden. The collected data were analyzed multimodally using the thematic analysis method based on Jean Piaget's theory of cognitive development, play and equilibrium. The results show that children aged two and four respectively act differently in activity with Green Screen. The two-year-olds discover the technology physically while the four-year-olds used the technology as a tool in play, which could suggest that the four-year-olds’ critical approach was more developed. There is limited research on Green Screen in preschool, therefore we believe that this study can contribute to the subject being noticed so that further studies can be done.

    Linden Lab, the company behind the online world Second Life (SL), invites multiplic- ity with slogans like “Your World. Your Imagination.”1 Yet many SL residents’2 profiles give evidence of adjustment to group narratives or norms in various social spaces inside the world. They seem to favor already established social and cultural conventions when creating an online identity; hence they also adjust to already existing hierarchies. I argue that residents in SL recreate social orders and power structures similar to ones already existing outside SL, even though they are of course under no obligation to do so. In that sense social and cultural patterns are reproduced and in some cases even amplified. My aim here is to trace social dynamics evident in three groups within this digital space and my hypothesis is that the rules of these social spaces then function as a foundation and guideline for identity formation, and in fact almost seem to prescribe a certain way of acting or behaving. Two of the groups have a clear role-playing profile, based on books and movies, whereas role-playing is not required, although possible, in the third group. All of them are thus removed from the lifeworld by constituting either purely fictive or, conversely, historical constructs, but they can nevertheless provide clues to how the residents think in an environment that is not primarily “real life” based, and in which anything, even a utopia, can be possible. By reading group charters and profile descriptions found in the SL search engine, and studying articles and blogs functioning either as group information channels or journals for individuals in each community, I examine the motivations and power structures driving avatar and online identity construction in role-playing communities, with a focus on the interac- tion between the overarching “state” power, the Linden Lab, the three communities, their respective role-models, and the rules that govern them, as well as the individuals that are a part of them.

    In manufacturing, it is vital that production personnel have the right information at the right time and place. The main purpose of information delivered to a workplace is to support the worker in a way that contributes to the quality of the product as well as productivity. However, when information processing becomes a large part of the workload, the time for core workplace activities is reduced. A study was conducted at a heavy diesel engine assembly line with the aim of finding how the assembly personnel interact with the information presented to them in their work context and how this affected quality and productivity. The study focused on four assembly stations and involved 70 assembly workers over a period of ten days and nights during which 2600 standard and customised variant engines were assembled. The main feature of the study was a change in the information system that reduced the amount of data and information provided, changed the location of the information, and modified the timing of information presentation. Results from the study show that the information presented at an assembly workstation influences the quality as well as the assembly process itself. The number of internal rejects decreased by 40% on two of the stations and on the other two stations no errors occurred during the study. This influence on the assembly process is of great importance from a quality perspective; by changing the information system and thereby the workers’ behaviour, the errors were reduced significantly. Whilst errors are few and detected internally, redressing these errors is a waste. Furthermore, an adequate information system boosts operator confidence and reduces cognitive stress levels. The information system used in this study was relatively simple (simpler than the regular system) and based on colour coded cards. Nevertheless, the impact was major and this indicates that when designing an information system for mass-customised assembly, a wide range of solutions needs to be considered. A study in final assembly of heavy trucks is planned for the future where the ultimate goal is to arrive at worker and task tailored presentation of information in customised assembly.

    This thesis is a preliminary study in which high quality listening environments have been investigated both objectively and subjectively with the purpose to identify and interpret general acoustic phenomenon that occurs, and how they are percieved, as well to enlighten the reader about these. The report deals with sound physics such as acoustics, an audio engineer's role, psychoacoustics, control rooms and technical equipment. The measurements and listening tests performed have all been done from the intended listening position which were then set against specific requirements and recommendations from AMS (Audio Measurement Standards) and EBU (European Broadcasting Union). Listening test have been made according to EBU standards. Also interviews were conducted with experienced audio engineers. In Conclusion and Discussion objectively measured data is compared with the listening tests, where similarities and conclusions about listening are drawn.

    As digital imaging is now a common and essential tool in the clinical workflow, it is important to understand the experiences of clinicians with medical imaging systems in order to guide future development. The objective of this paper was to explore health professionals’ experiences, practices and preferences when using Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS), to identify shortcomings in the existing technology and inform future developments. Semi-structured interviews are reported with 35 hospital-based healthcare professionals (3 interns, 11 senior health officers, 6 specialist registrars, 6 con- sultants, 2 clinical specialists, 5 radiographers, 1 sonographer, 1 radiation safety officer). Data collection took place between February 2019 and December 2020 and all data are analyzed thematically. A majority of clinicians report using PACS fre- quently (6+ times per day), both through dedicated PACS workstations, and through general-purpose desktop computers. Most clinicians report using basic features of PACS to view imaging and reports, and also to compare current with previous imaging, noting that they rarely use more advanced features, such as measuring. Usability is seen as a problem, including issues related to data privacy. More sustained training would help clinicians gain more value from PACS, particularly less experienced users. While the majority of clinicians report being unconcerned about sterility when accessing digital imaging, clinicians were open to the possibility of touchless operation using voice, and the ability to execute multiple commands with a single voice command would be welcomed.

    Artificiell intelligens(AI) är en bred term som består av flera delområden av datorer och system. Dessa datorer och system skapar algoritmer för att utföra uppgifter som annars kräver någon form av mänskligt intellekt och tänkande. Sedan AI:s tillkomst har teknik inom AI ökat i användning och tillämpning, exempelvis genom att automatisera repetitiva uppgifter.

    Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka IT-projektledares inställning och tankar om artificiell intelligens i projektarbetet för att vidare undersöka om projektledning är ett passande applikationsområde för AI. För att uppnå studiens syfte har kvalitativa, semistrukturerade intervjuer genomförts för att samla empiri gällande projektledarens arbetssätt och inställning kring AI. Denna empiri har analyserats gentemot samlad teori i en tematisk analys.

    Resultatet från den tematiska analysen tyder på att AI kan appliceras för att stötta projektledararbetet genom att automatisera det administrativa arbetet. Av det administrativa arbetet är det främst projektuppföljning och estimeringar som ska automatiseras för att stötta projektledare, då dessa är tidskrävande uppgifter. AI kan även appliceras för att underlätta beslutsfattandeprocessen för projektledare, genom att generera data från tidigare projekt. Resultatet visar även att projektledare ställer sig positivt till artificiell intelligens i relation till deras arbete. Projektledare anser dock att mänskliga aspekter är en viktig del av projektledning, och att projektledarrollen därmed inte bör bytas ut mot AI. Alternativt föredrar projektledare ett samarbete mellan maskin och människa där ledningen och den mänskliga kontakten uteslutande sköts av projektledaren, medan det administrativa arbetet utförs av en AI.

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of ecodesign in the altering process of EMS (ISO 14001:2004) to meet the compliance obligations of ISO 14001:2015. The purpose was furthermore to investigate the role of ecodesign in promoting sustainable development thinking and in assisting the management of environmental issues in companies manufacturing medical devices. A qualitative study was conducted in which a case-study research design was employed. Furthermore, a literature review provided theory on the concepts of sustainability and sustainable development, ecodesign and EMS used as a basis for the problem statement and theoretical framework. It was found that ecodesign improves the circumstances for sustainable development thinking. By incorporating environmental concern in the early stages of product development, compromises with other important valuecreating functions of a product can be avoided without spoiling irreversible investments. By communicating and marketing ecodesign as a part of the product quality, the demand on the markets is expected to increase benefitting profit in the long run. Ecodesign was also found to supplement and interact with the missing elements of EMS following a recent enforcement of ISO 14001:2015. The study contributes to research by providing an empirical example of how companies operating in the medical device industry can implement ecodesign to alter the EMS towards compliance with ISO 14001:2015. The study also contributes to research by exploring new ways of combining tools developed for addressing environmental issues in companies. As a conclusion the case study resulted in the construction of a tool for ecodesign with consideration taken to the identified processes, company structure and culture at HemoCue. The tool can be implemented in the EMS of HemoCue to improve the circumstances for sustainable development thinking and to contribute in the altering of ISO 14001:2004 to comply with the ISO 14001:2015 standard.

    Simulation tools are widely used across the product, process and resource domains of product- and production development. This paper discusses the nature of simulation models and the wide use of simulation models .It uses virtual manufacturing, in particular discrete event simulation project methodology, as an example to elucidate important aspects of simulation, in particular human roles and some selected project phases of which verification and validation in relation to the simulation’s intended purpose are discussed in particular. The paper uses the NASA CAS model for credibility assessment of simulations to arrive at a schematic representation of how overall credibility as composed of aspect related to the model, the data, and the model’s use.

    This keynote gives a general description of simulation and its associated system of interest. In the context of virtual manufacturing, three domains can be distinguished; product domain, process  domain  and  resource  domain.  Examples  of  simulation  in  these there  domains  are given, as well as some examples of simulation across these domains. Typical steps/phases in  a  simulation  project  are  described,  as  well  as  common  pitfalls.  In  industrial  simulation projects, usually a number of stakeholders are involved with different maturity/experience in the  field  of  simulation.  It  is  described  how  such  industrial  simulation  projects  can  be supported by a handbook, developed in close collaboration with a group of companies. As one example of advanced applications, simulation-based remote monitoring and diagnostics is  described.  The  other  example  of  advanced  applications  given  in  the  paper  is  that  of simulation-based optimisation.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose - This paper aims to explore co-design as a method for actively involving young consumers in the design of an alcohol education program that utilizes an interactive Virtual Reality (VR) component. Design/methodology/approach - Dietrich et al. (2017) six-step framework was applied to a co-design project involving four groups of 14- to 16-year-old Australian high school students. Data collection included observations by three facilitators, written feedback from members of each group and video presentations of the generated ideas. The data analysis focused on investigating the applicability of the six-step framework to young consumers and evaluating the quality and practicality of the generated ideas. Findings - Sensitization is key to enabling young consumers to become equal participants during the co-design process. Sensitization allowed the participants to engage in the design task in a playful manner, which fostered active participation and creative insights during the co-design session. A team approach based on interactivity and group autonomy enabled adolescents to contribute insights into their specific needs and wants. This was complemented by a trusting environment and the presence of immediately available yet "hands off" facilitators. Research limitations/implications - The findings are limited to one specific sample and design task. Future research is required that investigates co-design with young consumers in different contexts. Practical implications - This paper provides guidance for the application of co-design with young consumers by highlighting the importance of sensitization and facilitation. Originality/value - This study marks one of the first approaches to co-designing alcohol education programs, including VR components, with young consumers. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the consequences of involving young consumers through co-design.

    This project was created to answer the question: “How is our system doing?”. Bycomparing different monitoring options and ways to handle log files, the conclusion wasdrawn that Elasticstack is suitable to answer the question in mind. This thesis presentspros and cons with Elasticstack, how the system was implemented, and what’s importantto keep in mind. Further, the result is presented as statistical graphs and searchablelog-structures. Lastly, a discussion concerning log-strategy is presented. This strategywas created to specify how one should write to a log file to only store relevant dataand to ease use of Elasticstack. A sheet with these recommendations is attached as anAppendix.

    I takt med striktare mål för energianvändning och krav på energieffektivitet skärps energikrav för småhus successivt. Moderna småhus isoleras kraftigare och görs mer lufttäta i syfte att minska transmissionsförlusterna vintertid och därmed också energiåtgången för uppvärmning. Ett ökat fokus på att minska småhusens energianvändning vintertid slår tillbaka sommartid då moderna småhus kan konstateras ha en förhöjd överhettningsrisk med sämre termisk komfort och med negativa hälsoeffekter som följd.

    I arbetet används Simulink för att simulera prestandan hos fyra systemlösningar för produktion av komfortkyla och tappvarmvatten. Systemlösningarna som modelleras är ett resultat av ett samarbete med Swegon AB som vill undersöka potential i frikyla samt ny, icke etablerad teknik. Systemlösningarna består av en referenssystem med luft-luftvärmepump, därefter: (1) absorptionskylmaskin driven av solfångare: (2) frikyla från borrhål med bergvärmepump: (3) frikyla med uteluft via FTX-aggregat, lagringstank för kyla och stöd av luft-vattenvärmepump.

    Resultatet visade att frikyla och tappvarmvatten med bergvärmepump hade den bästa energi- och miljöprestandan. Systemet med en absorptionskylmaskin driven av solfångare var, trots användningen av solfångare, klimatmässigt sämst. Systemet blir troligtvis för dyrt då huset blir beroende av ytterligare system för uppvärmning vintertid vilket driver upp kostnaderna. Frikyla via utomhusluft blev det näst bästa alternativet ur ett energi- och miljöperspektiv men lider av höga investeringskostnader på grund av många komponenter för att systemet ska fungera. Simuleringarna visade att potentialen för lagring av frikyla från utomhusluft via FTX-aggregat är relativt god men att det fanns få tillfällen under året då kylan kunde användas.

    Att kunna bereda tappvarmvatten med annat än enbart el kommer bli viktigare för att inte riskera att överskrida BBR:s energikrav. Att komplettera klimatskalet med åtgärder som hindrar solinstrålning från att ta sig in i byggnaden kan vara en åtgärd som kan förändra resultatet i utredningen. Det gör att det är nödvändigt med vidare studier där hänsyn tas till fler parametrar, exempelvis husets värmetröghet. Vidare studier bör även kompletteras med en analys av husets värmebehov vintertid innan en slutgiltig slutsats kan dras om vilken systemlösning som kan bli ett kommersiellt gångbart alternativ på marknaden.

    Su-Ping Chen Burman has with her company SC Burman developed a standalone unit for public outdoor lighting. It is in line with sustainable development since it is self-sufficient and works without contact with the existing power grid.

    The design of the standalone unit had been entirely based on the technical prerequisites and the form came secondary. Therefore a new aesthetic design was requested. The request was for an aesthetic design that would fit into public places like playgrounds and outdoor gyms.

    The mission was to create an exterior design concept without any concern for the original solution’s appearance.

    A primary requirements specification was made for the product and the specification was based on four main components; solar cell module, LED luminaire, holder (s) and battery.

    To identify components defining the concept design of the lighting solution a second analysis was made. Solar cell module, LED luminaire and holder(s) were the ones chosen and the three components were therefore essential during the creation process.

    When the device is self-powered using solar energy it has a link to design with sustainable development. This motivated the theoretical part of the work; a foreseeable life cycle analysis of the components defining the concept design, as well as a technical description of the solar cells and LED luminaire.

    The main activities of the product development were project planning, feasibility study and the parallel process of generating, developing and evaluating ideas and concepts. Evaluation and selection of the concept through the process was done in consultation with clients, supervisor, innovation advisor and a potential end-customer. The process of generating and selecting concepts for development was carried out in two phases. The first phase defined a certain theme for the aesthetic design of the concept - a classic parasol. The second phase of the creation process was creating with inspiration from this theme. The result of the second phase led to an election mainly between two concepts, where one was to be developed as the final exterior concept for the lighting solution. One of the concepts, an organic one was therefore modelled in 3D-CAD and 3D-printed. Subsequently Burman desired the other alternative, a concept geometrical in form, as the final one. The concept named concept 8.a Geometrical was modeled in CAD, 3D-printed in a scale 1:15 and rendered. The 3D-printing gave a physical appreciation of the concept, while rendering showed how the concept could look like with supposed material. In addition the rendered pictures gave an appreciation of proportions, dimensions and size in relation to users.

    The end result of the project was shown at an exhibition for Bachelor of Science in Innovation and Design and at Karlstad University in spring 2015.

    Syftet med studien är att få kunskap om hur man kan arbeta med teknik i förskolan. Studien fokuserar på pedagogernas erfarenheter och kunskaper inom teknik i förskolan. Två pedagoger från två olika förskolor intervjuades med semistrukturerade intervjuer som metod.

     

    Resultatet i studien visar att teknik kan läggas på olika nivåer beroende på barnets ålder. Resultatet visar att det finns mycket vardagliga moment som är teknik som man kanske inte riktigt tänker på är teknik i förskolan, som att dra upp dragkedjan, spola i toaletten och få upp en pedalhink. Resultatet visar även på att man kan få in teknik på ett roligt och enkelt sätt genom exempelvis teman. Tidigare forskning visar att rolig teknik i tidig ålder kan göra barnen nyfikna på teknik, att det ger dem en bättre inställning till teknik i ungdomen.

     

    Slutsats: Teknik går att introducera redan i tidig ålder, teknik kan vara enkelt, teknik finns överallt, teknik kan vara kul.

    Emphasis on usability for all users at the design stage of an Electronic Patient Record (EPR) is directly relative to successful implementation. This article outlines the values of considering the heterogeneity of users in EPR systems. We review the literature available on the design of EPR sys- tems with a focus on its usability principles. A case study of how an outpatient EPR system was successfully implemented in the Epilepsy Unit of Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, with due importance to usability testing for a multidisciplinary team is explored.

    The purpose of this essay is to investigate the roles assigned to girls/women and men/boys in educational materials in the technology subject in grades 4-6 and how it affects connotations that could arise from a norm critical perspective. Because images can affect norms and that the National Agency for Educations clearly instructs that certain norms should be challenged, pictures in two teaching materials in technology have been examined. Through an inquiry on Facebook, it was found that Boken om teknik and PULS Teknik 4-6 were the most commonly used teaching materials according to the respondents. Images from the books were analyzed using a semiotic analysis framework, which divides the analysis into four categories that concern internal and external contexts and denotative and connotative levels.

         The results show that images in teaching materials in middle school technology have both norm breaking and norm detaining signs. They vary in extent from showing active, independent girls to all-knowing mansplaining men. The connotations that could arise from these goes from those that girls could identify with technology to technology as a historical male domain.

    Abstract [en]

    Within a framework of development, this paper discusses the current estate of education access as well as some of the current challenges for the implantation and design of ICT initiatives in developing countries, and reflects on the new shift of paradigm in the field of ICT4E. These challenges can be overcome by applying methods that merge their implementation model with local ownership. Technological literacy from a local context perspective is presented as an effective model to foster social stability, sustainable development and socio-economic growth.

    Through an examination of the goals and initiatives undertaken by the GeSCI, the idea of a new framework for collective empowerment and social change is presented. To better understand the dynamics between local context and ICT4E, the socioeconomic background of the digital divide is analyzed. Finally, the article establishes the links between empowerment education and the creation of knowledge societies that turn physical networks into digital human interaction.

    Detta är ett 20 p examensarbete på Innovations- och designingenjörs-programmet vid Karlstads universitet i samarbete med företaget QDP. Projektets utgångspunkt har varit ett patent gällande en förvarings- och doseringsbehållare. Uppgiften var att formge patentets delar och genomföra en marknadsundersökning som tolkades med arbetsmetoden Quality function deployment (QFD). Målsättningen med projektet har varit att genomföra en marknadsundersökning samt ta fram koncept på formgivningen av patentets delar. En förstudie har genomförts med litteraturstudier, studiebesök och intervjuer. För närvarande finns inte någon liknande produkt på den svenska marknaden, de konkurrenter som finns, finns på den amerikanska marknaden. Uppdragsgivaren är därför intresserad av konsumenternas behov och synpunkter på den framtida produkten. För att utveckla en produkt som uppfyller kundens önskemål genomfördes åtta intervjuer med konsumenter och fyra intervjuer med fackfolk. Marknadsundersökningen resulterade i åtta kundönskemål som omvandlades till produktegenskaper med hjälp av QFD-matriser. Vårt arbete resulterade i tre olika koncept innehållande formgivning av behållare och mått samt dokumentation i form av matriser. Koncepten uttrycker enkelhet, har nyhetsvärde på marknaden och uppfyller de kundönskemål som framkom av QFD. Produkterna har en enkel och genomtänkt design som är anpassad till köket.

    All municipalities in Sweden have an obligation to ensure that school children have a safe and secure travel to school. Each municipality decides the minimum distance and determines if school transport should be offered or not. The municipalities in northern Bohuslän, a county in western Sweden, are currently using manual school transportation planning. The distance between a child’s home and the school is measured to determine if a child is entitled school transportation.

    The GIS-group of the municipalities of northern Bohuslän has an ambition to automate the planning process of school transportation using network analysis. By developing and evaluating methods and results of calculated catchment areas and routing in the software ArcGIS and GEOSECMA web, the distance to school can be calculated. The report has been delimited to the municipality of Strömstad. The transportation distance limits differ depending on which age class the children belong to.

    The result of a calculate route between a school and an address point gave the shortest road in ArcGIS and the fastest route in GEOSECMA web. The fastest route is a combination of distance and speed restrictions. When comparing the results of the route analyses in both software there were no differences in the layout of the route, the only difference was the distance between the address point and the school. ArcGIS gave the exact distance while GEOSECMA web gave a rounded result, which makes ArcGIS a more reliable result. In the catchment area analysis ArcGIS created detailed areas close to the road network and GEOSECMA web created generalized areas and a simplified result. The details in the result of GEOSECMA webs catchment areas are deficient compared to the result of ArcGIS.

    The route planning module in GEOSECMA web is based on the Network Analyst extension of ArcGIS, but the analyst tools are simplified and gave generalized result of the analysis. ArcGIS delivers a more detailed result with both tools compared to the result of GEOSECMA web. The result makes ArcGIS a better software to use the GEOSECMA web due to the more reliable and detailed result given in both route and catchments area analyses.

    The design process strength as the basis for developing environment and activity is a project on a design and engineering approach using its methods and tools working on several parts as a basis for developing and creating a removable overall concept. The project is performed on behalf of Designservice in Karlstad, where the end customer is the Beachcenter Varamobaden.

    Beach Center Varamobaden is located in Motala and will be the starting point of a number of activities such as windsurfing, stand-up paddling and kayaking. In addition to activities Beachcenter also wants to offer their customers a restaurant that reflects their vision and events, which welcomes everyone just as they are. Study and formulate Beachcenter's vision and then implement it in the restaurant's layout and infrastructure based at the owner's vision, but also from a customer perspective.

    The feasibility study involves the elements that can create the searched vision. Advancement in the subjects trademark and color theory has been made, a number of different analyzes and several interviews with, among others a design and communications agency focused on the work process.

    A functional analysis summarizes all the sub-functions that should be included on Beachcenter, but also shares the concept into less graspable parts. Based on function analysis, the project has initially been divided into two parts; In House is the first part and has focused on the visual concept. The second part is about the customer experience at the Beachcenter. While working with the customer experience nevertheless identified a key touch point that became the starting point for a third part in the koncept, which involves developing a module bar becoming a center at the Beachcenter.

    Surf style, retro, healthiness, fellowship, activity and relaxation are some of the words that must imbue the concept. Various evaluation methods have been used to get the final concept to match the client's vision as well as possible.

    The completed parts of the In House part is color scale , pattern and fonts that have been applied to various products in the concept but also has been anchored in the restaurant as the opening ceremony on April 30 was completed. The customer experience has been summarized in an overhead view of Beachcenter where module bar is a major center for direct contact between the customer and the staff at the Beachcenter. Module bar has become a prototype and can easily be stored, moved and assembled at Beachcenter.

    With a brand identity, which is a summary of the results obtained during the project, Beachcenter at any time can develop the concept where it is located today, but also easily move or expand their business with the security that the same vision and feel can be created there.

    Humans are often faced with the need to make decisions regarding complex issues where multiple interests need to be balanced, and where there are a number of complex arguments weighing in opposite directions. The ability of humans to understand and internalize the underlying argumentation structure resulting from reasoning about complex issues is limited by the human cognitive ability. The cognitive limit can manifest itself both in relation to an inappropriate level and amount of detail in the presentation of information, as well as in the structuring of the information and the representation of the interrelationships between constituting arguments. The GATM model provides a structured way to represent reasoning, and can be useful both in the decision-making process as well as when communicating a decision. In this work a component-based overview of the GATM model is provided in the context of security policy reasoning, where previous work has shown that decision-making transparency and improved understanding of the reasoning behind a security policy may lead to a beneficial impact on policy compliance.

    While ‘renewable’ is the keyword in a bioeconomy and resource conservation is the motivation behind a circular economy, a circular bioeconomy is one in which waste streams from renewable bio-resources are looped back into the technosphere – open-loop or closed-loop recycling or conversion from matter to energy. This systematic review brings together 385 publications from 2015-2021, 50 countries and 150 journals, into a coherent account of the status quo of published research on circular bioeconomy. The numbers bear testimony to the growing interest in this field of research. Germany is the leading contributor to the scientific literature-base (10%), while the Journal of Cleaner Production (9%) tops the list of journals in the fray. The methodology adopted has been clearly explained, and the discussion has been segmented into sub-sections and sub-sub-sections to do justice to the diversity of the nature of the publications. A little flexibility in organisation of the flow of the text has been availed of, to improve readability.  The circular bioeconomy can be visualised as a set of ‘many through many to many’ relationships, enabling both economies of scale and scope in the longer run. This calls for extensive collaboration and cooperation among the numerous stakeholders in the fray. Several barriers will have to be overcome. Technology impact assessments and sustainability risk appraisals need to be carried out in order to ensure and convince stakeholders that they are on the right path. But as one knows and will appreciate, challenges lurk where there exist opportunities to be availed of, to replace the take-make-use-dispose paradigm of a linear economy to the grow-make-use-restore alternative.

    The purpose of this study was to investigate pre-schooler teachers interpretation and preception of building and construction in technology together with the children. The preschool curriculum states that preschoolers should stive for each child to ''develop their ability to build and construct using differnt techniques, materials and tools'' (Skolverket, 2016, p. 10). To meet answer this purpose, the follwing questions have been the starting point: How do educators interpret the curriculum goal regarding building and construction? And how can the goal be concretized in the activities of the educators? In order to answer the question, interviews have been held at two different preschools with six different legitimized preschool teachers. The results of these interviews show how the pre-schoolers teachers reflected what building and construction were in their activities and what individual preschool teachers perceive is building and construction, how they see their role in involvement in activities is building and construction and the approach to the curriculum goals. The result also takes up the pre-school teachers' thoughts on continuing education on technology in the preschool.
