Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study is to provide insight into preschool teacher´s perspective on the meeting with newly arrived children who do not have the Swedish language at the situation when they are left by their parents to the preschool in the mornings. The study concerns whether preschool teachers believe they have some strategies, and if they see any difficulties or obstacles in the meeting with these children in the arrival situation. This is a study where qualitative interviews are used as a method to take part of preschool teacher´s perspectives of the reception with newly arrived children. The interviews have been analyzed to notice, strategies and the difficulties/obstacles that preschool teachers see in the daily meeting with these children. The study results show that the teachers have several strategies at the meeting with newly ar-rived children, who do not have the Swedish language at the arrival situation. Some strategies are preschool teacher´s own while others are agreed in the preschool. Preschool teachers be-lieve it is their task on daily basis to overcome obstacles and they make efforts to meet all children equally. They also see difficulties in the handover of the newly arrived children, par-ticularly language problems. The obstacles that are mentioned is about the organization, such as lack of resources.
