Learning reading through writing : Teacher views of the WTR method (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to elucidate the pros and cons of the WTR method, which utilises digital technology, and in what way the method affects language development among children in the lower ages, in comparison with other methods to develop reading and writing skills. Six teachers with experience of working with this method were interviewed. The result shows that all teachers believed that the WTR method affects the language development of the young children positively. The teachers argued for the use of the computer/iPad instead of pens because the children can focus on text creation rather than struggling with motor skills. The teachers also believed that it is easy to adapt the method to individuals, even the pupils with difficulties or a disability. The major disadvantage of the method in their experience was the instances of malfunctioning technology. It was also clear, however, that the teachers also used methods with pen and paper to ensure that this skill was practised too.
