The purpose of this essay is to examine how Lodge uses oppositions and contrasts when letting the worlds of the protagonists meet in Nice Work and what impact it has on the reader. The essay focuses on how the oppositions work on the level of content and the level of language and structure. The chosen oppositions (man/woman, industry/university, familiar/unfamiliar, romantic features/realistic features, Vic/Robyn and separation/ union) give clear examples of the use of oppositions and contrasts in Lodge´s novel.
