This essay aims to clarify the importance of formative assessment in relation to pupils’ writing development and teacher attitudes to formative assessment and writing methods. The essay describes three teachers’ attitudes to formative assessment in their day to day teaching and how they think it influences pupils’ writing development.
The report describes six pupils’ experience of the teachers’ feedback on their writing development. In interviews with the pupils they give an account of their writing development and the feelings connected to it and the way the teacher treats them.
One method applied was observation in a class focusing on writing, attitudes and formative assessment. The observation time frame was one week. An additional method was qualitative teacher and student interviews. In the result the readers find the answer on this essays purpose which teachers describe how important the formative assessment is for pupils' writing skills.
