Pupils' perception of the significance of reading : A teachers' hope to teach from pupils' understanding (English)
Abstract [en]

The purpose of my study, by using qualitative interviews, is to gain knowledge about pupils’ perception of the significance of reading, and the best way to motivate pupils for lifelong learning. I chose to interview eight pupils for this purpose, a boy and a girl in preschool up to grade three. I also chose to interview a teacher in grade two, and a special educated teacher responsible for reading and writing skills. The results showed that there is a need to ask pupils already in early age about their perception of the significance of reading. The need is to meet pupils at their actual skills to make sure that meaningfull and lifelong learning is possible, and that pupils even can become critically thinking individuals. When this is the case pupils are given the opportunity to meet the future demands of a constantly changing knowledge society.
