"It can´t be deleted" : A qualitative study focusing on how counselors working in schools and youth clinics approach sexual exposure and interaction online (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The aim in this study was examine some counselors view on sexual exposure and interaction on the Internet among young people. Five interviews were conducted with counselors working in youth health clinics and schools. A content analysis was used to interpret the collected empirical data. The results show that sexual exposure and interaction on the internet is new to the counselors and that more knowledge about the subject is needed. The results show that there is a wide variety among the counselors in their experience on meeting young people who have been exposed or interacted sexually on the Internet. Mainly they met girls, but the phenomena also occured among boys. The results show that there seem to be a disgrace to talk about sexual exposure on the internet among young people. Social workers and other professionals that meet young people need to be open and make it easier for them to reveal when something has happened. Results also show that this sexual exposure can have something to do with a need to be seen or earlier problems, but it may also be common among all young people. They all agreed that there has been a social development in which young people today use the internet to a larger extent. The good thing about internet with the opportunities for young people to test their sexuality is described, and also the risk with the inability to delete images and about the anonymousness. The result shows that there seems to be openness about sex and sexuality today. Although the result also indicates that girls get more consequences than boys if they express their sexuality on the internet. The consequences seemed to last longer for the girls being exposed sexually.
