Building a new preschool : The children in the preschool rooms (English)

Abstract

The aim of my thesis was to search for understanding and describing the consideration given in planning and constructing a new preschool with special focus on the environment and concern for the children and the children's perspective.

The method I have used is qualitative and inspired by phenomenography and the socio-cultural perspective.

My empirical material is a result of the data collection, based on interviews with open questions comprising five people, all from different positions in local organisations involved in the planning and construction of a new preschool.

My study resulted in five themes: Experience of planning and work to build a new preschool, the children and the children's perspective, educational allowance in the indoor environment, thoughts of the future / environmental and educational concerns in the outdoor environment. The results emphazises the various interviewees' thoughts on the physical environments design. They express it as a unique opportunity to start in the "right way", to get create an educational environment based on preschool curriculum, and the concept of everyday teaching and then building layout.

In the discussion, I tried to show how this work has been done which different forms of consideration that was given in planning of a new construction of a preschool. In addition, the consideration that has been taken of the children and the children's perspective.
