Students’ views on aesthetic and theoretical teaching : The difference between working with an aesthetic and theoretical teaching method (English)
Abstract [en]
The purpose of my studie is to find out if creativity can inspire and motivate in theoretical subjects.
An additional purpose is to see if art as a subject can be used as a tool for learning in other subjects.
The method that forms the foundation for my studies is a study that I used in a grade 1 class, where I worked with geometry with half of the class at the time. One of the groups got to work in a aesthetic way and the other group in a theoretical way. After three lessons everyone did the same test where all the base figures was in focus.
I also wanted to find out what the student thought about working in a aesthetic way compared to theoretical. I found this act through a survey with set questions but with the option to answer freely. The literature I used is relevant for my field as it is directed at my purpose and question formulations.
The results show that the knowledge results don’t differ too much between the two groups, but the students’ motivation for future learning had a larger variety. About 80 % of the students preferred working in a aesthetic way and using pictures instead of reading when learning something new. The rest of the students preferred learning through reading books and listening to their teacher.
