Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to examine a few teachers' opinion on the children’s literature, what they base their choice of literature for their workplace on and what the consequences of their choices might be.

The method used wastwo separate qualitative interviews held with two active pre-school teachers at different preschools in the same municipality. There were three main questions: What does the literature mean to the children? Which criteria are used as the base for choosing literature? What are the consequences of the choices of literature in the educational work?

The results showed that the teachers thought that the literature was one of the most important tools in the pre-school as it is the main aid forhelping the children to read and write. The results also showed that these two educatorschose their literature based onthe interest of the children, but avoided books with strange or sad content. Furthermore the results indicated that books can have a profound effect on the well-being and actions of the children.
