Hälsa är ett begrepp som lyfts fram alltmer i olika sammanhang i dagens samhälle. Elever påverkas också av detta och därför är det nödvändigt att skolan ser sin viktiga roll i att förmedla hälsa på ett sunt sätt. I Lgr 11 och skollagen poängteras vikten av att hälsoundervisningen genomförs utifrån olika synsätt på hälsa, och rektor som skolchef är ytterst ansvarig för att hälsoundervisningen tillämpas på bästa möjliga sätt. Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka rektorers syn på hälsoundervisningen i ämnet idrott och hälsa. Studien har en kvalitativ ansats och resultatet har framkommit genom intervjuer med rektorer på högstadieskolor. Intervjuerna spelades in för att sedan transkriberas efteråt. Därefter tolkades intervjuerna genom koppling till syfte, tidigare forskning av hälsoundervisningen och KASAM-teorin som studien utgår ifrån. Resultatet visar att rektorers arbete för hälsofrämjade undervisning varierar, och i intervjuerna framgår att idrott och hälsaämnet inte ses som ett viktigt ämne i sig för att uppfylla skolans mål, utan ett medel för att prestera bra i andra ämnen. Vikten av att både fysisk, psykisk och social hälsa ingår i hälsoundervisningen betonas vid samtliga intervjuer, men vid djupare analys framträder bilden av den fysiska hälsan som den viktigaste komponenten. Ser man till helheten av undersökningen framkommer det att rektorer vill ha mer tid till hälsoundervisningen eftersom den ses som såpass viktig, men i dagens skolundervisning finns inte tillgång till fler idrott- och hälsatimmar och därför hamnar hälsan i bakgrunden.

Health is a concept which is highlighted more and more frequently in the society of today. Students are also affected from this, and the necessity of a healthy teaching in the subject comes clear. Lgr 11 and Swedish education act points out the importance of health education carried out from different perspectives, and principals are ultimately responsible for the quality in the education. The purpose of this study is to explore principals´ view on health in physical education. The result from this qualitative study has emerged from interviews with principals of high schools. The interviews were recorded, and transcribed afterwards. The transcriptions were thereafter interpreted based on the aim, earlier research in health education and KASAM which is the theory this study is based on. The result shows the difference between the principals´ emphasis in pro health education, and that the health education topic is seen more as a way to achieve better results in other topics. The importance of physical, psychological and social health is emphasized in all interviews, but it is the physical health that appears to be the most important component at a deeper inspection. The over all conclusion of this study is that principals´ finds health education very important and wants to allow more time for this, but the number of hours in physical education are too few which makes the health subject end up in the background.
