The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of toys on children's imagination in preschool with a few teachers' experiences. In this study, I used the qualitative method, where interviews took place with teachers whose experience has laid the foundations of the result of this study. The interview form has also been qualitative because I was interested in all teachers' experiences in the subject, as they tell it from their point of view, how toys are effecting children’s imagination. The purpose of the study was that with help from teachers' experiences find out if toys hamper children's imagination and in which way toys stimulate children's imagination. The interviews were conducted with four teachers working in different preschools.
The result shows that toys are not really needed in children's fantasy games, because children, with the help of their mind, creates what they themselves want by using transformations among other things. Imagination is based on the creativity of people's experiences that they acquire along with other people, which in turn transforms into imaginative creations. Toys have a certain function in the imaginative process as toys can be something to base the game on. Toys stimulate children's thinking, creativity and action, but the toys must not be too complete, because the children would otherwise lose their imagination and original thinking.
