Abstract

This work is about what 24 pupils think that technology is. Is there any connection between the pupils’ and the teachers’ understanding of the subject? In order to find an answer to this question I have interviewed twenty-four children from two different schools, two girls and two boys in year 1, 4 and 6. Moreover, their teachers were asked to fill in a questionnaire and a telephone interview with the teachers was carried out. One of the results of this investigation was that most of the pupils had some understanding of what technology is, although the answers did differ somewhat between the two schools. In school 1, most of the pupils considered technology to be the same thing as sports, while there was only one child of that opinion in school 2. In school 1, almost all the pupils in the fourth and sixth grades were aware of that they had technology as a subject in school, whereas almost all the pupils in school 2 stated they had no technology education. A difference between the teachers of school 1 and 2 is that the teacher of school 1 uses the term technology in his classes, whereas the teachers of the other school do not.

Sammanfattning

Detta arbete handlar om vad 24 elever anser att teknik är. Finns det något samband mellan elevernas uppfattningar och den undervisande lärarens? För att få svar på mina frågor har jag har intervjuat två flickor och två pojkar i år 1, 4 och 6 på två olika skolor. Dessutom har jag gjort en enkätundersökning samt en telefonintervju med deras lärare. Ett resultat som jag fick fram i undersökningen var att de flesta elever hade en viss förståelse för vad teknik är. Svaren varierade sig mellan de båda skolorna. På skola 1 ansåg de flesta att teknik var det samma som sport, medan det bara var en elev på skola 2 som hade denna uppfattning. På skola 1 var nästan alla elever i år 4 och 6 medvetna om att de hade teknik i skolan medan de flesta elever i år 4 och 6 på skola 2 ansåg att de inte hade det. En skillnad mellan lärarna på skola 1 och 2 var att läraren för år 4 och 6 på skola 1 använde sig av ordet teknik i sin undervisning medan lärarna på skola 2 inte gjorde det.
