Abstract [en]

Service production currently represents some 70 percent of the gross domestic product in the Western World. Services have also come to be the core product of the value-adding processes in manufacturing firms. In many services and service processes, IT (Information Technology) is now playing a crucial part. Surprisingly, "Services and IT" have traditionally been studied separately in research. In the light of this, the present chapter will therefore introduce some models by which service operations are related to the use of IT. To traditional banks the Internet development means that they are facing requirements for an enormous transformation process. Their IT departments have, and will continue to have, a critical role in this process
