Abstract [en]

The development of Swedish sociology of work can, I suggest, be divided into three periods: First, (about 1950-1965) studies of worker adjustment to work, dominated by Human Relations theory; second, (about 1965-1990) a reform period with a strong theoretical progress and critique of employees' lack of possibilities for work satisfaction, rationalisation strategies and their effects, hierarchical organisations and lack of democracy at work, exclusion of people from the labour market, and sex segregation; thrird, the current (1990s) period of disorientation, in which sociologists are not in great demand anymore and in which we have our hands full in trying to find out what is happening in working life
