Abstract [en]

The paper highlights the field of tension between cultural heritage and tourism from both a local cultural heritage perspective with strong local identity and the commercialization of the tourism industry. The empirical data are from a geographical peripheral industrial community in Sweden, which during a relatively brief period has undergone significant structural change from steel production to a meal destination. Starting with this concrete place-related laboratory, the paper uses a theoretical model to discuss the development of tourism in general but, in particular, environments where there is a conflict of interest in the commercialization of local and regional resources which may result in the disappearance of the local identity
