Commissioned education in Information Systems - expecting effects on competence development
2001 (English)In: On Methods for Systems Development in Professional Organisations. The Karlstad University Approach to Information Systems and its Role in Society (Nilsson, AG & Pettersson, JS, Eds.), 106-124, Lund: Studentlitteratur , 2001, p. 106-124Chapter in book (Refereed)
Abstract [en]

Competence development in Information Systems, in co-operation between universities and companies, has turned out to be a productive approach, both to the development of the individual and to the business operation where the individual works. Professionals who are greatly committed to IT, but whose knowledge is sometimes limited, need an education that will provide a basic knowledge of information technology and systems development. With these fundamentals they will be able to correctly manage and contribute to the development of the information systems that are used in their own business operations. This chapter presents a study of such a commissioned education. The first part of the study describes the purpose of the course, and the expectations of the course members before the course started. In the second part, the outcome of the education is presented, based on an investigation made eighteen months after the end of the course
