Abstract [sv]

Syftet med denna undersökning är att få inblick och förståelse för hur relationer mellan lärare och elever kan se ut i Sydafrikanska skolor. Jag ville ta reda på hur lärare i Sydafrika ser på relationer mellan lärare och elever samt vad de finner som viktigt i bra relationer till eleverna.

Undersökningen gjordes på en skola i en svart kåkstad i Sydafrika och metoden som användes i datainsamlingen var kvalitativa intervjuer. Intervjuerna gjordes med tre lärare i åldrarna 39-59 år. Jag har med min undersökning kommit fram till att lärarna är överens om att goda relationer och förståelse till eleverna är viktigt för att undervisningen i skolan ska flyta på så smidigt som möjligt. Lärarna är eniga om att alla elever ska behandlas lika, även om det finns delade åsikter ifall alla blir det eller ej. Trygghet är en grund för goda relationer säger de intervjuade lärarna. De menar att eleverna ska känna sig trygga i skolan och relationen mellan läraren och eleverna är familjär. Lärarna är som föräldrar och eleverna är deras barn. De vill med goda relationer uppfostra goda samhällsmedborgare.

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this report is to get an insight and understanding of how the relationships between teachers and learners can look like in a school in South Africa. I wanted to find out how teachers in South Africa views relations between teachers and learners and what they consider important in a good relation to their learners. The examination was made in a school placed in a black township in South Africa and the method I used when I was collecting data was qualitative interviews. The interviews were made with three teachers in the age of 39-59.

I have with my investigation concluded that the teachers are in agreement that good relations and understanding towards the learners is very important for the education to flow as smoothly as possible. All the teachers I interviewed think that all learners should be treated the same, they have different opinions though whether all are being treated equally. The teachers point out that safety is a fundamental foundation for good relations. The learners are supposed to feel safe in school and the relations between the teachers and the learners are in a familiar way. The teachers act as a parent and the learners as their children. The teachers I interviewed want to have good relationships with their learners so that they will grow up to be good citizens.
