Disability Sport : An Unused Resource in Today’s Physical Education (English)
Abstract [en]

The purpose is to examine in what way disability sport in today’s physical education can affect the students view of people with any physical handicap.

The questions at issue are: How does the Federation of Disability Sport, and working physical education teachers, value giving Disability Sport space in physical education? How does the Federation of Disability Sport, and working physical education teachers, value working for increasing cooperation and in that way get more disability sport in today’s physical education? Which effects could the Federation of Disability Sport, and working physical education teachers see at the students witch have disability sport in their physical education?

The method used for gathering the facts has been five qualitative interviews with people within the area in question. Firstly, interviews with two working physical education teachers at a school with students in the age 12-15. Secondly, interviews with two working physical education teachers at a school with students at the age 15-19. Lastly, an interview with a representative from the Federation of Disability Sport.

One conclusion is that the cooperation between the Federation of Disability Sport and the school is non-existent, however both the Federation of Disability Sport and the school want to work to establish a cooperation. The physical education teachers which have been using disability sport as an element in their physical education means that they have changed the student’s view of the athletes which is active in disability sport. In the extension the teachers think that the student’s view of persons with any physical handicap in general improves with disability sport in the physical education.
