The symbolic image of death metal : A semiotic analysis of Amon Amarth’s album cover (English)
Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to do a semiotic image analysis of Amon Amarth's album cover, interpret symbolic signs, investigate the relationship between lyrics and image, and to investigate how masculinity is presented in the cover. This through my chosen theories, visual communication, visual cultural studies and gender. I use a hermeneutic approach and ethnomethodology. In my result, the semiotic image analysis, I discovered different signs and symbols that could identify the story in the cover with the help of the song lyrics. The results are applied in my chosen theories to gain a deeper understanding of my study and the meaning of album covers through the theories.
