Veil ban is a controversial topic in Europe. In Sweden motions and proposals for a veil ban at schools have been submitted at both national and municipal levels. This thesis will examine which colonial notions are expressed in the Sweden Democrats' perceptions of veil bans in schools from a postcolonial perspective. This study is based on a case study where a qualitative content analysis will be used in order to answer the research questions. The result shows that there are colonial notions such as us vs them mentality are expressed in the Sweden Democrats' perceptions of veil bans in schools. The results also show that ‘’the other’’ is a threat to Swedish values such as equality, democracy and secularism, and one should therefore protect and fight anything that threatens these values. The veil is a threat that should be combated by imposing a ban on the veil.
