: A study on how increased prices have affected the pattern of purchasing organic food for Swedish families (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Organic food has long been sought after by consumers throughout Sweden. The reason for the popularity differs, however, personal health, animal welfare, the environment and biodiversity are part of the most important factors for consumers. Organic food has always been considered expensive, despite the health benefit. The purpose of the study is to investigate the ecological consumption patterns of families with children, in connection to the price increase. Food prices have gone up due to war and are part of the pandemic's result. This has resulted in a lack of energy resources, contributed to inflation and a general increase in prices in Sweden. The price increase has forced people to form new habits, and they have had to rethink how, where and what they buy. To answer the question chosen for the study, the qualitative method interview is used. The interviews cover five different families and their purchasing habits. The theories used to analyze the interviews are The value action-gap, Political ecology and Political economy. Through analysis, a coding system has been established and shows results on changed purchasing habits in the form of reduced purchases of organic food and a reduced organic range in stores. The families consider themselves to be affected by the price increase in different ways, but primarily financially.
