Norm-critical review of Swedish textbooks : A qualitative image and text analysis of selected textbooks (English)
Abstract [en]

This study aims to examine how inclusive educational textbooks, produces for grades one to three, are in order to gain an understanding of whether the literature creates opportunities for people with various aspects to feel seen and represented. The aspects that the analysis focuses on, from a norm-critical perspective, are gender, race/culture and disability. Through a document analysis that focuses on both text and images, there is a significant difference in how the various aspects are both included and represented in the literature. Both of the examined text books highlight characters who both follow and breaks norms. Overall, the literature shows that there is a lot of room for development in order to be inclusive, especially in the representation of characters with disabilities. 

Abstract [sv]

Denna studie syftar till att undersöka hur inkluderande läromedelsböcker, framställda för årskurs ett till tre, är för att få en uppfattning om litteraturen skapar möjligheter för människor med varierande aspekter till att känna sig sedda och representerade. Aspekterna som analysen fokuserar på, genom ett normkritiskt perspektiv, är genus, ras, kultur och funktionsnedsättning. Genom en dokumentanalys som fokuserar på både text och bild framkommer det en stor skillnad mellan hur de olika aspekterna både inkluderas samt framställs i litteraturen. Båda verken som undersöktes lyfter karaktärer som både följer och bryter mot normer. Överlag visar litteraturen på att det finns mycket utrymme till att utvecklas för att kunna vara inkluderande, speciellt i framställan av karaktärer med funktionsnedsättningar.
